World's Largest Salmon Barbecue
Hey all you salmon lovers, it's time to head towards Fort Bragg; as it's the first weekend of July and you'll sure be in for a great feast. First held in 1970, this festival continues to delight salmon lovers - young and old. With live music featuring on the schedule, there's a lot to look forward to. But the main attraction is the salmon of course! Feast on the likes of Fresh Green Salad, Good Ole' Corn on the Cob and the staple garlic bread. Remember to bring friends along as this event supports a cause - the restoration and preservation of the wild Pacific salmon resources.
This was our first visit to the Salmon festival, and it did not disappoint. Held at one entrance to Noyo Harbor, volunteers managed the flow of hungry visitors with expertise. Our plates were piled high with barbequed salmon fillets, garlic bread, salad, & buttered hot corn on the cob. For those who were vegetarian, an eggplant dish was available, and hot dogs could be gotten for the kids. Cowlick served up amazing handcrafted ice cream in a myriad of flavors, and Thanksgiving coffee company poured warm cups of brew. Tickets could be purchased for microbrews or wine as well. While there were lots of people, it wasn't crowded and there was a real old fashioned, small town feel to the festivities. We parked at the college, and a shuttle deposited us right at the front gate. Standing in line to eat was a pleasure, with friendly people serving us, great smells in the air and a spirited band playing for our entertainment. This is a great charitable event, and well worth your time. We will absolutely go again!
This event was great, what can I say. This my girlfriends and mine first time and we will definitely go back again. They load you up on wonderful barbecue salmon, with great corn on the cob, salad and french bread. You can go back for seconds on the salad, which I did. We sat next to a local couple who were very nice and they brought their 83 year old mom, who was having a great time. The music was good (blues and rock), the food was good and the people were really nice. Trust me, you dont want to miss this event. $25.00 is not bad, and your supporting a good cause, the Salmon Restoration Association..
The only comment I can add to five stars is, ask for the Salmon Cheeks at the grill... Incredibly yummy!!!
Last time we were there it was $25 per person, which was a little high for us. This year its $20 per person, much more affordable.
