Guardia (La)
Description
This is one of Cuba's most famous 'paladars', or restaurants, located within an 18th century townhouse. Get behind the Spanish architectural walls to discover this little three-roomed, third floor eatery, which has played host to the shooting of a 1995 Oscar-nominated local film, Fresa y Chocolate. Start off with a tangy Gazpacho Soup and the Snapper and Grouper Fillets with Buerre Blanc Sauce. More gastronomic discoveries can be made in the fish courts of the restaurant, while the wine list features a gamut of local stuff. Famous Havana cigars are available, for those who'd like to puff while they dine.
La Guarida reopened at the end of last year, still serving great food and doing it with pleasure. The house specialty groupper and their honey-lime chicken are delish. Better book in advance.
Site of the Famous Cuban film Chocolate and Strawberry, this special place has an incredible cuisine leaving one to wonder where they get all the incredible foods. A true delight in a facinating part of Havana.. Highlight of my visit!
...don't miss out on this fab place...great food, great selection of drinks, and a great atmosphere...don't let the outside scare you away, go in and enjoy...
Quite possibly the best place to eat in the whole of Cuba. Not that I've eaten everywhere in Cuba, but I'd find it hard to top La Guardia. The walls are adorned with photos of the many famous people that have dined there, and it's easy to see why they bothered making the trek down various sidestreets to get there. The atmosphere is unlike anywhere I've ever been (very Cuban), but more importantly, the food was absolutely wonderful. Simply amazing given the nature of the country and the restraints on it.
I'd love to go back.
