I've eaten here twice while in the area on business. The first time, the food was excellent (Gaelic Steak), but the second time (same) wouldn't get me to return. The service was friendly both times. The atmosphere is, well, it's a bar with a restaurant and will meet your expectations in that regard. It's worth the visit if you're looking for something new.
This place is pretty good.
They are the best for Irish food downtown. This is by default however, because they are the only one serving Irish type food. Their food is alright but the chicken there has been pretty dry on occasion. I do recommend the Irish Nachos (potatoes, jalapenos, cheddar, ranch and bacon).
The only bad part is that there is smoking.
LOVE the Irish Nachos!!! A must have every time! Almost always good service, except the last time we sat on the patio and the server was a bit slow on drinks, steak sauce, etc. My husband didn't like the steak not really flavorful or juicy, but the Pecan encrusted chicken was awesome and worth the $$. The bartender really does a good job at making the drinks too! Give it a try, we like it. Well worth the time/$$ to see a preformace on weekends.
The corned beef and cabbage was good - but what do you expect at an Irish bar. The service can use some help as it took a while for appetizers and entrees to arrive on a slow night. The chairs are pretty uncomfortable and we were in the dark except for one person at our table with a halogen spotlight shining on them.
On two occasions I have had to leave this establishment because they are lackeys to Virginia's stringent ABC laws. One time one of the people in our group had an expired driver's license so they wouldn't serve her (she's 25) and the other we wanted to play cards at our table (rummy - not for money or anything) and they said we couldn't because of ABC rules. Now I can understand not serving someone who looks questionable, but not serving someone who clearly looks and has a license that says they are 25 years old - because the license itself expired a week ago? Cmon people grow some backbone! We'll go somewhere else because there is nothing too special about this place anyway - food is mediocre and drinks are not cheap.
