Needs Support
By ,
I come from Albuquerque, which is part of the BioPark Society. Included in the BioPark Society is their aquarium and Botanical Garden. For a minimal fee, you can take their train back and forth between the facilities. As a member, you are given free entrance for a year to all three facilities. However, all of this is done via support and funding. This is what the Las Vegas zoo needs. I agree that the zoo is not in the best interest of the animals. It almost made me cry to see the animals in such an enclosed space and surrounded by lots of poop. The zoo needs to be relocated to a much, much bigger area and constructed to allow for sufficient space for the animals. But this can only be done with support and funding. Unfortunately, after reading other responses and little turnout at the zoo, they have very little.

Find these animals a better home
By ,
The San Diego Zoo recently announced that it will be ending it's relationship with this zoo due to concerns over animal care. They will also be recalling some of the animals that are already on loan. Some of the issues mentioned are the animals do not have enough shade, are bored, lonely and stressed. Please do not support this organization except to encourage the USDA to shut it down and find the animals new homes.

Loved it
By ,
My son has loved animals all his life. He is 16 yrs old now & on school break and wanted to go to the Zoo. But he heard from other kids in school that the Zoo was cruel and a horriable place for the animals. I took him today and there was fresh fruit and fat healthy looking animals to us. Even the pigons looked healthy. You had to watch you step in places for bird poop, but thats to be exspected in a Zoo. We even got to see them bring more fresh food to the animals on our way out. Please help donate.

Sad beyond believe
By ,
I have found similar posts going back to 2006. I was there yesterday. Nothing has changed. No one ever said that the keepers don't care about the animals. I'm sure they do care, but caring doesn't provide proper habitats for the animals. The reptile house was deplorable. There were only 4 snakes that I saw. (no, quantity does NOT make a good zoo....not my point.) One glass front tank had an actual hole in it where it had been broken out. Large cracks radiated across the entire surface. The absolute low point of the entire visit was the sight of the poor lioness in that tiny cage. If she stood up, her head almost touched the top of the enclosure. They had provided a thatched roof so she at least had shade. My parrots at home have larger cages than this poor creature. I was reduced to tears and left soon afterwards. I realize that funds are non-existant, but just because you want to have a zoo, doesn't mean you should have one. The remaining animals should be transported to another zoo immediately. It simply breaks my heart that there are tigers living in penthouses on the strip while animals suffer a few miles away. I don't care what anyone says, those animals are suffering. They are being fed. I witnessed that. No one may be beating them but keeping animals in "boxes" is cruel and simply WRONG. I feel the same way about keeping whales at SeaWorld, but that's another review. Wish I could give this zoo a negative five stars.

What a terrible trip??
By ,
Oh my God !!!!!!! There was nothing to like. This is simply not a zoo. This was the worst anmal place that I have ever visited. They are fooling people. I wonder how this place is still open. Where are the animal protectors from this place. Where is the Going Ape series in Animal planet to save those animals. Apes, lioness and other animals are in a very small places. The place is not really a zoo. Small cages capturing the animals. The smell is terrible. A lot of cages are empty !!!! what happened to those animals? It is even hard to see the animals when they are there becasue the fence has small openinings. The walk way is not well paved and unorganized. The trees are not well taken care off. I'm not sure why should you pay $9 for entrance.

USDA INSPECTION
By ,
the usda was there to inspect the zoo june 13, 2010. they reported that the apes did not have any shade in 106 degree temperatures. i called the hsus and got a copy of the report. i can see that some of these positive reports on the zoo are from employees. well, if you care about these poor animals give them some shade!!!!! Please!!!! How would you like to be outside without shade in the las vegas heat??? who cares if you love these animals and you are trying your best -- it is not enough for these poor creatures. why should they suffer because you want a dammed zoo.

Shut this place down
By ,
I was there a few weeks ago and was appalled at what I saw. When we arrived one of the wild birds was outside the facility running along the road. We mentioned to hte person taking the money and her response was "that the bird is street smart and will come back". The reptile house is terrible. I never thought I would feel sorry for a snake, but I did that day. There is a python in an enclosure that does not give it enough room to move at all. It also appeared as though the lizard was dead. The peacocks had their feathers clipped so they couldn't have fanned their tails if they wanted to. I have checked the internet and have seen that attempts have been made to shut the place down, but it's not high on anyone's priority list. There were no tigers or lions. The water in the animals cages was dirty.

You all are crazy
By ,
Just because it isn't a multi-billion dollar place like San Diego Zoo doesn't mean it's bad. This wonderful animal refuge does what it does on no government funding. I have never seen such caring staff that are not paid the wages of a doctor. Most of you probably haven't even been there, your just looking for something to b**** about online.

Tired of the comments

How about instead of talking so much *S why don't you back it all up? You get your a* out in the Las Vegas heat and volunteer @ the zoo. The zoo DOES meet the criteria to house all of the animals that they own. So 20 acres that you think is necessary for a bobcat ISN'T. As for the "skin cancer" that is found on the lioness --- she has done that upon herself because she likes to rub her face on things. It isn't CANCER or anything dangerous for her. And the zoo keepers do put ointments on her face so it won't bother her. I also know personally that the animals are fed everyday. The zoo runs solely on donations so for people to expect all zoos to be like the San Diego Zoo should really pull the millions out of their asses and make a zoo of their own.
