Jamaica House at The Fan is a very small and cosy place that boasts of serving authentic Jamaican food. The menu includes delicious traditional dishes like curry goat, jerk chicken, oxtail stew and fried dumplings! Alternately, one can opt to take-out some freshly baked Jamaican patties and other baked goodies. The owner and chef, Carena Ives, has managed to package authentic Caribbean food at modest prices. Ives has also opened another restaurant, Carena's Jamaican Grille .
The food is still good it s just I feel with the much business that they have they need to move to a bigger location the customer service sucks and the service time sucks to but no bad complaints on food because I can go back they always consistent
The best food in Richmond is in this tight little space!
The place is always packed so you know the food is good. I eat here at least once a week, but have pretty much settled for the oxtails with extra gravy every time. Order a lunch to go...you seem to get more if you order out, plus the seating is limited and there is only 1 waiter to serve. This place has been consistent for years-- the staff can work the line leaving me just enough time to check my blackberry.
The owner, Carina, just opened up a more upscale place on southside with similar selections. I was one of their first customers. Seasoning was still on point and service was fantastic! This new place is a great option for dinner.
Jamaica House is 1 of 2 of the best jamaican resturant in town. My family is from NY and everyone knows how good the food is uptown. The food and service is remarkable nothing like it anywhere else. Keep up the good work.
It doesn't matter what time you go to Jamaica House, it's ALWAYS busy. They do a pretty good job of accommodating the amount of traffic by taking orders, filling them, and cashing out pretty quickly, but the order area is too small and the number of dine-in tables too few to really accommodate adequately. The food is consistent. It's always good, but it doesn't blow me away. Their clientele are loyal and they do a good business. If you're in a hurry, don't go. But if you want decent Jamaican, go. You can even get cowfoot!
I have been eating here since they opened in I believe 1991. Sometmes I eat here 2-3 times a week. I have tried just about everything on the menu and it is all very very good. I say expand, knock out that wall and make it bigger for the growing number of customers. The people that work here have always been nice and friendly.
The food is the best in town. My first experience was whem one of my friends offered me some ox tails. I thought the food looked funny, but once I tried the food I had to have somemore immediately. The food at this resturant is seasoned to perfection. This experience was one year ago in February, and I eaten at this place twice a week since I first tried it.
Ok, i went into when i went to Jamaica House the first time i thought the food would be nasty.I had neva be there before so i didnt no what to order so my friends dad got me Curry Chicken, and it was chunks of chicken with rice and this ugly looking yellow sauce.I tasted it and my taste buds went crazy! It was excellent.I cant wait to go back!
