I shouldn't be giving away this secret spot but I have to say if you want to impress someone or just really have that dinner to remember, this is the place. Guaranteed to make someone fall for you if you play your cards right. The food is great and the menu offers a variety to satisfy just about anyone. Definitely worth the visit but please, keep it a secret. LOL

The crab cake at avalon is bar none the best in Richmond. I have had crab cakes at every top tier restaurant in the city and this one takes the cake. The other entrees are delicious as well, but I find myself ordering the crab cake more often than not.

The low lighting creates a great romantic atmosphere. The fois gras was phenominal, as well as the scallops. Very energetic and pleasant wait staff. A great place for a date

Avalon has an excellent somewhat new chef. The chef has taken a good restaurant and made it great. Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere remains while the food and portions rose to meet the expectations from old. The short ribs were to die for. Go soon!

This place is just excellent. Richmond's best kept secret. I've been wanting to go back but it's not right without a date to accompany me.

About ten months ago, I decided to bring a first date here. That evening changed my life forever. The food, the wines and the atmosphere were incredible. We continued to date and now have a thriving relationship. We have only been back once, but look forward to enjoying everything once again this Valentines day. Thanks for everything.

Avalon used to be a great place for a nice, quiet meal on the elegant side where you could hide-out from the regulars. The secret's out, however. You can still get a great meal there and sit in the somewhat private dining area, or you can hang with the smoky bar crowd and get a bit rowdy if you'd like. Must haves: the sirloin bacon cheddar burger with shoestring fries served through the wee hours of the morning. Perfect after a night of drinking!

I visited this resturaunt in the fall of 2006. The food was superb. I had the roasted duck, garlic potatoes, and an appetizer of pumpkin soup with mushrooms. I am writing this review several months later, and it has left a lasting impression on me as a truly expectional meal. The setting is equally exquisite. The interior was completely rennovated with dark wood tables and booths, and a muted color scheme throughout. It felt very friendly and comfortable to dine. I will be going back again. And the cost is well deserved for the quality of service and food.

The food is every bit as delicious and sophisticated as it sounds on the menu! Tapas style portions make this a great place to go with three or four friends...order a bunch of appetizer-size dishes and get a taste of everything! Nothing that we ordered disappointed---from the carrot and ginger soup to the whiskey chicken to the fresh gnocchi. The duck confit pizza was another real winner! Also, no wait on a Friday night...what else could you want?!

Reasonable prices, great bar, fantastic food. My favorite place in town! Wine list is massive and fairly priced. Menu changes with the seasons. Great portions, excellent staff. This is a great getaway
