Thai '99 Restaurant, Charlottesville

Best Thai in Town: Thai99 is a locally owned restaurant with two locations. The University-area location, while it lacks ambiance, has somewhat better food than the north-Charlottesville location despite identical menus. The food at the University-area restaurant is incredible. Incredible soups, amazing Pad Kapao. For dessert try the sticky rice and mango. I eat there once a week.

Thai 99 is a best kept secret that needs to be discovered. They use the best ingredients, and grow the vast majority of their peppers and other herbs on site. The owner is a great friend of the local growers and is ready to lend advice for the home chef as well. Classic Thai dishes are available from the menu. If you get to know the owner there are some things available for the avid Thai lover that are not on the menu. Just ask you may get the suprise of you life. 5 Stars.....

Awful Thai food. The peanut chicken was basically water, peanuts, chicken and a teaspoon of peanut butter. My one year old son could make better food. Stay away from this place. Go to Lime Leaf instead.

Very nice. The lunch portions were just right, and included soup, egg roll and an excellent dessert of tapioca and coconut milk. The lad na was much more soupy and lacked that nice smoky flavor I was expecting. There is also ample parking. The UVa neighborhood location should indicate that the restaurant isn't upscale. It's priced very fairly, and very tasty for the money. You can find better Thai food, but not in Charlottesville.

Thai 99's food is the best in town, and I've tried all. Drunken Noodles and Pad Se-ew are my fav's!
