This is an elegant restaurant for a quiet meal or an event. The food and service is excellent. It is NOT a place for children who need highchairs, or for cranky parents who can't be detached from those children. They need to stay home or eat at places who will accommodate screaming babies until they are old enough to learn manners and that they are not necessary to the rest of society.
Ignore the reviewer silly enough to think this was a good place to bring a kid because it's fine dining and not a place where people would normally take their kids. Also, ignore the rocket scientist who described this as a lodging place because it's not--not sure what place they are talking about. This is my favorite restaurant in CVille and that's saying something because this place is full of great restaurants. The food has never been anything but spectacular here and the wine list is outstanding, both in taste and value. In fact, I have had two bottles of wine at this place (Hedges Red Mountain and Trinitas Petit Sirah) that I've been ordering yearly ever since first trying them here. Both were under $40 on the restaurant's menu, and I think only about a 50% markup from retail. The only thing I can think of to say that is even remotely negative about this place is that it is not on The Downtown Mall so you can't get just head out for a walk after dinner like the restaurants down there. But it's a lot easier to park here.
Not kid friendly (NO Highchairs!) and rude about it! For a booster seat they'll give you a pile of linens! Linens, really!!! Give me a break! I do understand that it is not a place that usually has children but 1 - be prepared for the occasional child that comes so that family can enjoy dinner together during a special occasion weekend and 2 - Do Not be Rude about it. We left and it is their loss.
Love the place. Service is outstanding, meals are prepared with care and attention to detail. I have been dining at the Old Ivy Inn for 11 years, and have alway kept it on my top 3 restaurants in town.
I found this place online and took my husband there as a surprise for his birthday. We live about 1 1/2 hrs. away and it was well worth the drive. The food and service was delightful!! We can't wait to return next month when we travel to Charlottesville.
We've dined at Ivy Inn on and off for about 15 years. We do not think it to be as good overall than in the early 90's. The pricing is far to high compared to the quality and presentation received. Try Duner's in the village of Ivy!
id been told by friends that this was their favorite restaurant in town. my wife and i went to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, and we look forward to going back at the first opportunity. a creative menu with many choices, we especially enjoyed the pumpkin ravioli, and a dish of rockfish and mussels. the rack of lamb was as good as ive had anywhere. the prices arent cheap by any means, but we left satisfied and well taken care of. bravo ivy inn!
Coming from Washington and knowing good restaurants we were absolutely enchanted with the food, service and ambiance of the
Ivy Inn. Our chef,Angelo is a real master of his cuisine and his wife,Ferrill is a wonderful counterpart for him. We can not wait to go back.
This dining experience rates among the greats and we will tell all ofour friends who are heading that way.
