Our waitress made a mistake on our order and when we said told her and asked for the correct meal she was very rude for the rest of the dinner. Since 20% gratuity is automatically added in for groups of 6 or more she had no reason to be nice. She ruined the experience for the entire family. I have never been treated like this and will never go back.
Vivace Restaurant is just delicious and the atmosphere is warm and inviting, by far the best waitstaff we have encountered in Charlottesville. We had dessert in the lounge area and loved meeting the owners who were so nice . We will be back and tell all our friends.
The service is reasonable, as is the atmosphere. However, my experience from many visits is that the food is of mixed quality. The appetizers and salads on my most recent visit were divine. The entrees, in contrast, tend toward overcooked and the tomato sauces are far too sweet. The tiramisu, though not *true* tiramisu, is quite yummy.
In short, if you're looking for fine Italian dining, consider Carmello's (Charlottesville) or D'Ambola's Restaurant (Afton). Vivace is fine if you're looking for something cheaper.
Very nice experience, would recommed this restuarant highly. I am a stickler for good service, even halfway decient service, and VIVACE comes through. Nice atmosphere, private dining, good wines if you like Italian wine, Some Virginia wine.
This is my favorite restaurant in Charlottesville. My two favorite things are the risotto and the Ravioli Rosati, and I of course love the Fetticcine Alfredo. Everything I've ever tasted from there was delicious. I don't know what on earth the lady who said it was bland was talking about. Of all the Italian restaurants in Charlottesville, this one has the most flavorful food by far. The service is good, though someone noticed that if you are young, you may not get as good of service. It's irritating, but it happens everywhere. The inside is stunningly beautiful. With the unique setting and fabulous food, you can't go wrong.
Walking into the restaurant is amazing, the scenary, the building and the feel are all spectacular. Unfortunatly the service is horrible. I noticed older folks (between 40 and 60) getting quality service (even receiving there food before me and i was there first) Granted im only 21 and probably look 18 I dont see how that makes a difference. I waited at least an hour for my food last night which was mediocre at best (I ordered the Stuffato). My girlfriends Chicken marsella with mushrooms and red wine sauce was absolutely horrible. The red wine sauce tastes like tobacco and coffee. Im sure there menu is hit or miss but i wont try it again.
This place is big on ambiance and service. Much to my dismay, it is NOT big on taste. Everything we ordered was bland. You'd expect Italian to be bursting with flavor. Not so! Where is the spice? The flavor? The calamari, the lasagne Florentine with sausage (which had way too much filler), my friend's lasagne Bolognese... even the white chocolate covered sorbet was average. Pretty presentation, but average. The best thing about the meal was the wine. It's a nice place for a date, and the service is top shelf, but I won't be back for the food.
This place must have a new Chef because our dinner last night was one of the best I've had there. The service was great, the ambiance is romantic and relaxed. In good weather the patio is especially nice.
