This place was recommended to us by our hotel. It is downtown off the courthouse square. The beer is good, but if you order steak, bring your own chain saw. You'll need it. We will just wave as we pass by next time.

Not a favorite, but not bad. It takes a special personality to appreciate this place. I'm sure the beer is good but we didn't have any. The menu seemed to have one flavor - spicy! Everything had wasabi, vinegar, red peppers, chilis... Not caring for spicy, there was really not a lot of variety. Food was fresh, healthy, well-seasoned. Hamburger was overdone. Portions were small. But fifty cents for a slice of bread? No bread with the soup or salad, unless you pay. That's petty. No lemon with water. It was tough getting the server's attention, but service was friendly. I personally am not a fan of bringing a meal before the salad is finished, so we felt rushed through. And the main course was cold by the time I got to it. Ambiance is open, clean, lovely wood, but somewhat boring. Huge televisions were broadcasting a basketball game. Music was modern instrumentals, not all that pretty. I was disappointed that there really isn't a lot of character. I compared notes with my date afterward. We felt it was a good meal, but not really worth going back.

Will never go again. Very disappointed in the service. Waited 40 minutes for food after calling in and they said it would only take 10-15 minutes. Will not recommend to friends.

Good food and clean (albeit a bit boring), but tends to be a bit on the expensive side for no bigger than the portions are. Good for lunch for one or two, but would probably be pricey to being a big group to. Local beers are undeniably palatable, but I'd rather just stick to the cheaper brews from the store. A bit frantic at times, but staff are genuinely friendly and service-minded.

Good Beer - Blah Food
By ,
Been here a few times because my kid goes to JMU. The Scot Ale is terrific, in fact, so good I haven't wanted to try the others. A real pleasure considering the other micro brewerys in the area. But, the food lacks a lot. It tends to be overcooked with not much skill behind the apron. Hiring real cooks might improve this, plus, a menu update would help also. It's pretty generic.

This is a great place to eat and enjoy some down time. We make it a regular stop when we vacation at Massanutten Resort. We have never received a bad meal and the sampler pack is the fun thing to try, if you like different brews.
