Southside 815, Alexandria

Most amazing steak benedick I've ever had! Great menu, large portions, and VERY affordable! Never have to wait long for a drink at the bar and the staff is so friendly. I've lived in Old Town ALexandria for 7 year and this is my favorite place in town.

Went there today with my children, best friend, and her son. It was very kid friendly, even with a kids' menu, which is something that is sometimes hard to find in Old Town Alexandria. The food was really good. I had a Po Boy Shrimp/Oyster Sandwich that came with fries and coleslaw. The waitress was totally fine with me doing that. She was very attentive and was constantly checking to make sure we were ok. My friend said that it's a great bar at night as well.

Southern american cooking, e.g., pecan-crusted fish, jalapeno chedder biscuits, po-boys, grits. Some outdoor seating; darker than average inside. Though quality has dropped in the last five years, the reliably-good service, excellent home-made bread basket, and hard-to-find southern specialities make it a fair value alternative to the high-end Georgia Brown's or B. Smith's.

Great restaurant atmosphere with an awesome menu. As far as the bar is concerned one of my favorite happy hours in Old Town and a great place to watch any game. Lots of specials, great wings, and a super efficient bar staff.

Southside to sum it all up was ok at best. The bar was filled with regulars whom always had a first name....unfortunately the entrees were filled with more than one word....usually greasy and underseasoned. Food was ok at best and the appetizers were just marginal. But considering the neighborhood it's like cheers... everyone knows you name but unfortunately that's about it....sorry try to comfort more than your drinks.

Southside 815 provides a reliable version of many southern comfort foods. the drinks are generously proportioned, the bar is sequestered enough to not intrude on conversation, the servers knowledgeable about both the good and the bad on the menu and the value for your buck is terrific. sides are big enough for two or more(particularly the mac and cheese).

I enjoyed the oyster poboy. The fries were nothing special but the slaw was delicious.

This restaurant is so comfortable. its so relaxing and you feel like all the waiters/waitresses are there for you! the food is great (try the nachos for an appetizer) and you'll love the friendly waiters and waitresses! its my FAVORITE restaurant and it was even when i was a kid!

Yet another bar trying to be a restaurant and failing. The 815 Biscuit tasted like the last thing the pig and crab saw was Sodom (and like Sarah, turned to salt). The pancake under the decent BBQ shrimp was disgusting. The shrimp from the shrimp and salmon special was ... off. Service was adequate and friendly and the saloon like decor had some appeal - too bad you had to trudge through the tobacco filled bar to get to the restroom. Southern food is meant to be simple. Cut the menu by 75% and make sure your kitchen can consistently produce a refined and refocused menu.

Good and reasonably priced menu, friendly and prompt service and nice setting. When I once had a problem it was fixed fast and with no self-serving excuses from management. Southside just said they were wrong, there was no excuse, it would never happen again and please be our guest for a complimentary dinner for two. The response was a model of customer service. We count on this as a reliable neighborhood place for lunch and dinner. There are so many overpriced places in Old Town (pity the poor tourist) but Southside is NOT one of them.
