It’s not an upscale place by any means, but the Royal has a homey comfortable feel to it. We went for dinner, and three of us ate for about $45. The food was well prepared, filling, and served promptly. I had the roast lamb special, which was tasty though plain – like you might get at grandma’s house. The salad bar, which included stuffed grape leaves and great hot peppers, was well worth the extra dollar or two. Service was prompt, friendly and efficient. It was a welcome change from the pretentious restaurants and chains of Alexandria.
My daughter and I stayed in the Sheration Old Towne Suites in Alexandria during our trip to the DC area for a Dance Competition. Just to make things easy we popped into the Royal Restaurant which was right across the street. Turned out the be the best Dinning experience we had all weekend. I ordered the Fish lunch special and the plate was huge with 2 pieces of fish, really good fries, cole slaw and 3 hush puppies. My daughter had the Tex-Mex burger (Chili on top was not authentic Texas Chili, but then we weren't in Texas, but it was good) with fries, which was so big she could not eat it all. She also had a large piece of Pumpkin pie which was rather good. Top that off with the friendly wait staff and we had a quite enjoyable and affordable meal. Absolutely best meal I had all weekend! I would recomend it to anyone.
