With casual elegance and outstanding food, Crystal Thai has been voted one of the best bargain restaurants in Washington for the past six years. White tablecloths, votive candles, fresh flowers and charming wait staff, in native garb, create a lovely showcase for a sumptuous meal. Curries-red, green and yellow-are creamy and flavorful and come with chicken or shrimp. An overwhelming favorite is a crispy catfish that is served in a spicy sauce that is indescribably delicious. Several beersincluding Thailand's own Singhaand wine are available.
I really like some of the dishes here. A real stand-out is the Duck curry, it is very good. Also, the pork dishes can be exceptional. But I have a problem and that is with the service. We went on a cold winter weekday night, there was only two other couples and the service was slow and bizarre. The wait staff was busy talking to each other. And the food was not that hot in tempature. I just got the feeling they couldn't be bothered to act like they care.
We've ordered from several places and nothing beats this place. Portions are generous and the prices are reasonable. Delivery is free for orders above $15. We generally get the pad see ew and basil curry w/ beef. Only problem with the place is that when you ask for medium spicy you never know what you'll get. Sometimes it will burn your tongue off, other times it is super mild. Other than that- its great! We always do takeout. Have never dined in.
I have been coming to this restaurant before they even did the renovation, for about 12 years now. It consistently delivers excellent dishes. Their curries are just right, soups are excellent, their pork with string beans dish is the best around. If you love desert, try their mango with sticky rice. My only problem is that sometimes their staff is either rude or act like they are unhappy at work, but the food is excellent. I have also eaten there several times when the a delegation from the Thai embassy was there for dinner so you know the food is great.
Cozy little place with lots of wood in the decor.
Noodle dishes are superb, as is the thai vegetable soup.
We have eaten here many times, and like everything.
The only problem is the parking. This restaurant is very popular, as is the Outback Steakhouse next door. Especially on a weekend night, you can count on the parking lot being full. There is street parking all around, but don't count on being able to pull up to the door (unless you get carryout, and there is a convenient loading zone at the door.)
