I dined there for the first time Saturday Night - the food was amazing! Everything is homemade and the it shows through the food. I had steamed rice, chicken in a wonderful cream sauce, and crisp well seasoned veggies. We also had the house salad to start that had ripe veggies. Their selection of wine is limited but of great quality - we reccomend you try the merlot. Finally dessert was a piece of decandent chocolate cake. We found our server attentive.
We just dined there for Sunday lunch for the second time yesterday. The food could NOT have been more delicious-nor the view more lovely-we were outside-my friend had a wonderful pork loin lunch with small crisp broccoli, I had a lovely small garden salad, very fresh, with delicious tortellini sauced in a delicate pesto sauce. It was excellent. I can't tell you how many times I complain about the highly touted restaurants in DC, and what exorbitant prices they charge for perfectly awful food. This place we will return to again and again-the view is so gorgeous, inside they have fireplaces, and the prices for wine and liquors will, quite frankly knock your socks off-they are so low! Wonderful service-it sounds like the reviewer abovewhere just nasty people to begin with-and clearly do not know good price to value on really carefully prepared delicious food.
I can not say enough bad things about this place. The service and staff were less than helpful. They definitely do not put the customer first! I don't know how they stay in business. The view isn't even that great and certainly will be a place that I make a point of telling people to stay away from. We had a terrible experience when the owner tried to charge us more than they should of and wasn't willing to budge one bit to compromise. Horrible Horrible management!
The view is the reason to go. The food varies; I haven't been in nearly a year so it could have improved. Check out the menu, have a drink and appreciate the gorgeous view of the Potomac.
I think the restaurant has a lot of character, as well it should. It was built in 1854.
This restaurant is in a rather run down building, the staff is very hard to understand and hovered around our table, the menu is very light on choices, and the prices seem a bit high for the ambiance and service. There is a $15 min/person; so if you want a quick bite this is not the place. However, the staff did offer to waive the $15. The deliverery of this offer came across and judgmental of our affordability. We left without partaking.
