Fresh fish and creative displays of sushi that are as pleasing to the eye as to the palate are what makes Tachibana so special. For sushi lovers, secure yourself a place at the sushi bar. The friendly chefs are on hand to recommend daily specials and new creations. If you are adventurous, sample the monkfish pate, delectable slices of monkfish liver marinated in soy, much better than it sounds! For those who prefer their fish cooked, there is a wonderful teriyaki calamari or broiled eel served on rice.

I have dined at this restuarant quite a number of times and the food is excellent; the staff is excellent; and the atmosphere quite enjoyable.Too bad the restuarant does not encompass the whole building.

WOW Only real Japanese Sushi place I found here since moving from Japan. Will not accept any Korean/Chinese substitutes. I was thoroughly impressed with this place. For those who know authentic Japanese Sushi, this is the best in town.

It's really sad
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/08/07
It was very sad that I lost one of my favorite restaurants. Tachibana has been always my first choice to treat my important guests. However, today the food I had was awful! How the Spanish sushi man can make nigiri in the first restaurant of D.C area? It’s not about racial thing. The fish on the top of nigiris were dull and tastes fishy. In tradition, it is unusual for woman to make sushi because woman has more heat on her hand. Usually western people have more heat and hair on their body than Asian. For good nigiri it is very important to get good material (fish, rice and vinegar.) But if a nigiri stay too long in warm hands of sushi man, it will loose its bouncy texture of fish. Also Tonkatsu were too hard and Tempura was a bit soggy. There are so many restaurant that can server this level of sushi and food. Maybe this is the time for Washingtonian to regard again weather Tachibana is really our best choice restaurant or not!

Love IT
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/03/07
This place is my all time favorite when it comes to japanese restaurants. The sushi is wonderfully done, and I'm a sucker for good sushi. The best is thier sashimi. The sukiyaki is great as well. I'd recommend that everyone try sitting at the sushi bar, even when you bring the family. The sushi guys are real fun, plus you get the sushi faster at the bar.

My husband and I have been going there for 8 years; it is by far the best sushi restaurant in the DC area.

This is my favorite japanese restaurant. I come here every time I'm in the food for great sushi. The food is wonderful and the wait staff are polite and prompt. I'd recommend the scallop rolls and the yellow tail jaw.

Fresh, friendly & incredible value in Mclean.
By Pinkard, 10/03/05
The best overall sushi in the Washington D.C. area is to be found on the second floor of a very plain-looking building in Mclean that looks more like an office complex than host to a warm and friendly gem of a neighborhood restaurant. It's packed with Japanese people on the weekends and has a steady of stream of regulars who understand that good sushi and sashimi does not mean you have to have be in a trendy location with a overdesigned high-octane interior to be legit. This place is definitely not going to win any interior design awards, but it should win the award for the most friendly service, best value and freshest fish in the area. If you are sashimi fan like me, the sashimi lunch special is an incredible value that is 85% of a dinner portion for 50% of the price. But forget the price, it would still be worth it at twice the price any where else. The spicy tuna hand rolls have the perfect balance of flavor and texture that melt in your mouth vs. other restaurants that usually just add some commercial hot sauce on top and call it their spicy version. Come early on weekends, it's usually packed. A better idea, especially on a cold blustery night, and for those who have experienced the simple ambience of rural Japan, is to self-hijack your normal dreary commute on the jammed DC Beltway and head to this cozy establishment, order a good Japanese beer and let your frustrations melt away while you take in a little bit of Japan off the beaten path in Northern Viriginia.

Best kept secret in VA
By SusanP, 09/26/05
A little hard to find, but that's how we like it. Great sushi, the only place we have found Orion beer, intimate little rice paper screened rooms. Can be difficult to get a table if you don't have reservations on the weekends.
