They've gone back to their roots and this is a great place to get breakfast on a weekend or a hot sandwich some evening. The hot turkey in particular is good, and the soups are always savory. There are a couple of people working here who've been there since the 1960s, from what I understand. You won't get that at Denny's...
Have been going to Barbara Fritchie since 1962 and find it to be one of my favorite places. New ownership is not as good as old ownership but what is in today's world. A great value even under new ownership.
We went for dinner. The food was not tastey, the turkey was was dry, and I think the portions were small.
We did not have dessert.
I would not recommend this restarant to anyone!!
We have no intention of going back!!
I was told that Barbara Fritchie is the best place in Frederick to get pie. I don't think so.... I'm not saying it is the worst I have ever had, but you could buy the same pie in a bakery. Take average food, couple it with bad service---why waste your money. The waitress brought me the wrong drink forgot silverware and we had to ask someone to get our check, she forgot about us. The ambiance is straight up diner, which is not a bad thing if that is what you are looking for. One plus is it is never full, so you don't have to wait in line.
I went to Barbara Fritchie with my friend on Saturday September 10th 2005 @ 7pm. When we stepped into the Restaurant you could smell the home cooked food. AAAHHH what a wonderful smell. The atmosphere was very warm and friendly. We sat at a booth a little ways back. The waitress came to greet us immediatly. I ordered a diet soda and too my suprise they had foutian Diet Pepsi($1.50)w/free refills and made coke and birch beer w/ syrup and soda water($1.50)w/free refills w. I ordered a Diet Pepsi my friend ordered a Birch Beer. We then looked at the menu. We were so delighted to find that breakfast was available during all open hours. I was amazed at the prices,So low. We both decided on what we wanted just as the waitress came back. I ordered the creamed chip beef on pancakes($5.75), my friend ordered the Maryland(all meat not filler) crabcakes platter with 2 sides mac and cheese and stewed tomatoes($15.75) . The food arrived before we could believe it. Wow WHAT A PORTION!!! We both ate all of what was on our plates, we were both full and to our susprise we saw dessert looking us in the eye. The desserts are all made fresh there daily. We could not resist I got the Lemon Meringue ($1.50)and my friend the Graham Cracker Pie( $1.50). The Meringue seemed to be a mile high on both. The Food was wonderful and the price was very reasonalbe. The whole bill came to under $30. plus tip. Hopefully we will see you there as I know that we will be going again shortly.:-)
I went to Barbara Fritchie's at 5pm on Sunday, April 17 with several friends. I ordered a Reuben, a Chef's Salad, and a Vegetable Soup. The food was excellent, inexpensive, and had hearty portions. It was my first time there, but my friends had eaten there many times before. They pointed out that all of the dishes are home-made, and the pies and cakes are particularly delicious. I was so full from the large and tasty chef salad that I sadly didn't have room for any dessert. I'll be sure to save room next time! The interior is nicely decorated and the wait staff are friendly.
