I spend a considerable portion of my disposable income on the unbeatable and extremely consistent crabs at Bill's. The homey atmosphere, super people that work there, and personal attention of Steve (Mr Bill's dedicated son) make for a marvelous and unequaled experience.
This, coming from somebody who has patronized ALL of the leading crabhouses (Bo's, The Barn, Costas, Obrycki's, Gunnings, Ocean Pride, etc etc). Simply no reason to spend your crab allowance anywhere else.
i must say i really cant figure out what has happened. i had been to bill's in the past and was impressed. however on sunday, may 23, 2010 we went to bill's terrace. i was with my husband, daughter and my father. my father came in from odenton on my request to go an eat crabs. we arrived at 4:00 to sit for 45 minutes in a lounge with only one bar maid. we had a hard time gettting drinks while we waited for the worst crabs which were highly over-priced. we where #6 to get crabs. we where seated in a both which i found to to be pretty dirty. we ordered three dozen of the 58 dollars a dozen crabs. our soda ice had crab seasoning all over the top. the crabs were so brittle they broke in our hands, they were missing alot of claws. they were very light and not worth twenty dollars a dozen. there was a couple who were seated in front of us and they sent theirs back. we seem to think that because we were first to get there we got the left overs from the night before. it is a shame because my father would had came back and brought alot of bussiness. we should have went to al's seafood further down. our bill was 191.00. it was my dad's first and last experience. i really cant believe people wait in line for the crap that was served to us. my dad really don't like to complain so he complained the whole entire dinner to me. he wouldn't send the crabs backs. he said he just wont ever visit again. so anyone who wants good crabs it is not at bill's. save your time and money and go some where else. i guess i should have read the other reviews and saved alot money. it only takes only one time for us to learn.
I, personally, was not impressed by Mr. Bill's. The service was exceeding slow, only three waitresses and none seemed all to happy to wait on you. We waited for over two hours to be seated, ordered the onion rings as an apetizer, which we had almost immediately yet waited 20 minutes for a pitcher of soda to arrive. (WHICH cost $8.00 and no free refills). Crabs were good, yet depending on the waitress who waited on the table, the prices changed for the crabs for each order and people were so intoxicated from the long wait at the bar that some patrons paid $32 for small crabs and even though people were told no more large sizes - a few late arrivers were told only crabs that were $61 and $65 per dozen remained. Once the bill arrived, the waitress told us that the gratuity was included in the bill (18%) so it made total sense on why the waitresses didn't have a fire lit under their rears to wait on people because they were getting a tip no matter what and it was included in the bill.
If you go there, be prepared for a wait and somewhere along the line perhaps a rip off. It was annoying to see how some people got in and seated quickly while most of us waited for hours. One table (party of 10) was seated so fast and had their soup, jumbo shrimp, kids food and crabs so fast, our heads were spinning, yet the rest of us waited in discust for our food.
I will admit that the bus boys were hopping and getting the tables cleaned and prepared for new arrivals, they were friendly, hardworking and helpful by getting people menus and butter or ketchup if so needed. And for all their hard work and the slack they take from the pathetic waitresses - the waitresses do not share tips with them. Oh the shame. The roles should be reversed - waitresses should be the table cleaners and the boys should be the ones taking food orders. At least the boys were very friendly and helpful.
Always B-more's finest crabs, hands down. The seasoning is unique and very different to what most are used to. Probably the most consistent quality crabs in the area.
Get there early, about 4:00 - 4:30 to get a number to be seated first (best crabs).
We usually just stick to the crabs as the apps and soups don't seem to be up to par.
The crabs at MR. BILL's are the best in Maryland. I have been with Steve since he started his crab business and he has all ways had the best crabs because he does not settle for 2nd best. He is also a great host and a GREAT FRIEND. See ya soon Steve, TEXAS TOM.
I have been going to The Terrace Inn since I was a kid. The owner Mr Steve is a very warm hearted guy who really cares about customer satisfaction. I have NEVER had a bad CRAB there. I have spotted several professtional athletes in the restaurant. I am SOOO glad he stayed in Essex, & I hear there is an OC location as well.
Complaints:SIZE, I think he should probably shorten up the bar area & utilize that space for good CRAB eatin. The CRABS are a bit pricey but so are everyone elses(if they are good crabs). I would also like to see a larger imported beer selection. I cant say that the other menu items are any good, caus I have ONLY had his CRABS. The waitresses & barmaids could b alittle more friendly, but the bus boys are very accomodating.
Closed on Mondays. I will always be back for his crabs!
There Service Would Probably Be Excellent If They Bring There Noses Down Some & Smile For A Change At All Of There Paying Customers, I Ventured Here The Same Day I Went To Crabland & We Ordered ! Dozen 48 Males & Some Fried Clams, We Get There, The Crabs Are Sitting On The Freezer, Cold And Small As All Outdoors, I Found That Funny, So We Asked Could We Have Some Other Crabs Who Wants Cold Watery Crabs, So They Sent Them Back The Female Nevr Asked Us If We Wanted A Drink, If We Would Like Anything Else, Other Customers Came In, She Smiled At Them Asked Them Did They Want Anything To Drink, She Showed Them A Menu, Let Them Know About There Specials & I Thought It Was Rather Amusing, How People Can Be When All Money Is Green. My Clams Came The Guy Brought Em Up, Sat Em On The Counter Me & My Mom Sat There For About 10 minutes Waiting For The Crabs just to See How Long They Were Gonna Take Before She Handed Me My Clams That Had Been Sitting There, I Got Inpatient & Asked Her, Are They My Clams ,She Looked With This Shocked Look An Saod Oh Yea I Think They Are. I Was So Ready To Go, I Guess You Have To Live In This Area To Enjoy Yourself Or Have Some Greener Money Than What We Had........
