The Black Olive is a Psarotaverna or Greek fish tavern set in the historic Baltimore neighborhood of Fells Point. They make a lot of their food from scratch using only organic produce and the freshest fish flown in from around the world.
A great place for dining! Believe me, the seafood is fresh. If you want to, the maitre'd will show you the fish for your consideration and selection. And it is so good...! We found this place through the Internet, suggested it to our Maryland guests - they were impressed, and so were we. Most definitely will return, if we can.
The best meal in Baltimore! Everything I put in my mouth was delicious and perfect. The owners wife was extremely friendly and helpful. The grilled stuffed squid is something I have dreams about still. The Rock fish soup was mouth watering too. If I am ever in Baltimore again... this is where I will have to go!
Restaurant has a nice location and decor. There are some interesting selections on the menu. I tried the Black Olive Gyro….not what I expected. It comes with mushroom and sautéed vegetables, tzatziki sauce, on a home made pita. The pita was very flat and thin. The sautéed vegetables overpowered the tzatziki sauce. It would have been nice if they offered a more traditional Gyro with lamb or other...
My lady friend had the Greek Salad with Colossal Shrimp. She said the salad and shrimp were very good and also made complements on the restaurant décor.
Perhaps the best restaurant I have been to since I moved to Baltimore! The food was excellent, the atmosphere wonderful, the service great. Price wise, a little up there but absolutely worth every penny of it. Go during Baltimore's Restaurant week in the summer and for $30 you get great food worth twice that much. Absolutely Amazing!! For anyone who likes Mediterranean food, this place is among the best!
This is my husband and my favorite place to have a romantic dinner and be pampered for the evening. Be prepared to pay a little more than your average restaurant due to the exquisite selection of fish and wine. Eating at the Black Olive is not a meal, but a wonderful, savory experience that I wish I could have more often.
The place had a such a great warm atmosphere. Nicely snuggled into an area where it's quiet enough to have a romantic meal without running into the party-goers that are usually found in Fells Point. The food was nicely seasoned with enough zest to to appreciate its' fullness without overpowering the entree. The staff was courteous and very polite. I'd highly recommend for people to visit. But, of course, there was one negative. Like most place that are located in Fells Point, there is no immediate parking if the Valet is closed. but all in all I loved the place and expect me to be there again soon.
I love the fact that I get to pick out the fish I'm going to eat. The wait staff shows everything available and tells you about each type of fish available fresh that night. The selection is excellent, with some fish that you can't find anywhere else. Product is always fresh and delicious.
The staff is expert on the fish and on the all aspects of the meal. Of course the wine cellar alone is worth a visit. This has to be the best wine selection in Baltimore, and the prices are very reasonable.
A very neat aspect of The Black Olive is that the focus is on organic foods and drink. You can even get organic beer and wine with your meal.
Without a doubt, this is my favorite restaurant in Baltimore. I try to eat here at least once a month.
The food is second to none. The service and the owners touch makes you feel like your in Greece. Going to this restaraunt is an experince you will never forget. Ask to go down and see the Wine Cellar or book an evening dinner in the Wine Cellar for a once in a life time experience.
The Black Olive is a perfect dinning experience in Baltimore's historic Fells Point. The restauraunt is beautifully and thoughtfully appointed, the service is swift and attentive and the food is fresh, organic, and perfertly prepared.
I have several favorites. They include the savory bread pudding, grilled octopus salad, kakavia, avacado greek salad, and homemade sorbets. In fact, I have been begging the owners to put the fish soup on the market for years!
With pleasure, I have dined at The Black Olive several times over the past six years. When friends come to visit me from all over the world, dinner at The Black Olive is a meal they must have. That is quite a compliment and one that is well-earned.
