The food is outstanding, the ambiance is warm, inviting, and friendly. The food is fantastic, I can't go there without getting the baked nachos and a margarita. But when you go, don't forget to but a t-shirt, they are great conversation starters, especially if you aren't from the area. If you don't believe me, we go to Baltimore atleast 6 times a year even though we live in Pennsylvania, and that is the only place we stop.
Nacho Mama's is more about the place than the food. The food is abundant but ordinary Mexican style. We found the bean soup excellent and the nachos crisp and fresh and it was cute that the chips were served in an old beat up hubcap. However, the red salsa was ordinary and lacked the flavorful heat needed to enhance the bland white corn chips. Our food was seved hot and fresh but the sauce that surrounded the chicken and/or the shrimp fillings was a bit gummy and did not have the zippy taste needed to provide the authentic Tex-Mex experience. Also there were only onions and green peppers in the mix. The fajita shells were freah and hot so that was good. The platter with the fixins was ample with a mound of sour cream and fresh tomatoes and shredded cheese. The rice and beans were ordinary and a bit tasteless. We went at a slow time so we were served pronto but in my opinion it is not worth the wait for this food. However, if you like a funky atmosphere and flea market memorabilia of Elvis, Baltimore sports, Natty Boh and Ocean City then go ahead and enjoy. It has a fun atmosphere and a big bar to sit around and chat with the locals and tourists who are looking for huge portions of food at reasonable prices.
I can't say enough good things about Nacho Mama's. There is a locally brewed beer available there that is cheap and good - the people are great. There is a definite Elvis fan somewhere in charge there, as evidenced by the Elvis stuff on the walls in the front of the place. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!
