I re-visited this charming italian restaurant on a recent trip to Westminster. I was impressed with the great menu and I had a hard time deciding what to order! The waiter was professional, and familiar with the menu. I recommend trying one of the daily specials. One of the best features of the location is the variety of atmosphere in the different seating areas. The lounge is casual, while the up stairs dining room is more romantic. Always flavorful, and fresh cuisine. Based on my experience today, I will definitely be going back to Paradiso.
If you have tastebuds, are under the age of 60, and enjoy good food, you will want to skip Paradiso. The Olive Garden has better food and service than this place. SAVE YOURSELF! There are good restaurants in the area, this just isn't one of them. If, however, you really enjoy those little flecks of dry parsley on your plate and you haven't tasted anything since 1972, this is the place for you.
My fiance and I decided to eat here one weekend on a whim. We went for dinner and were brought to the upstairs dining area. There was a drunken man seated at the table next to ours. He was loud and boisterous but none of the staff asked him to be quiet. My fiance and I tried to ignore him, so we each ordered our meals and a glass of wine. As an appetizer we ordered bruschetta which came with melted mozzarella cheese, something I had never seen before and I eat bruschetta wherever it's on the menu. It was terrible and looked like something that had been cooked in the dishwasher. Gross. Next came our salads which looked like something from a Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. They were small with iceberg lettuce and a slice of tomato, not appetizing. Next came our entrees and, surprise, they were both covered in mozzarella cheese even though neither of us had ordered anything with that description. My fiance ordered fish and I ordered a pasta dish. It appeared as though cheese has been poured all over both dishes and then put under a heat lamp for 10 minutes. Gross. I would comment on the flavor but just as I was about to take my first bite the drunk guy next to our table made a grand flailing gesture with his arms and knocked my wine glass over, ruining my shirt and my plate of food. He didn't apologize, the entire restaurant just stared at me as though I had done something wrong. The waitress came over and asked if everything was alright. Well, here I am covered in wine and my food is ruined but yeah, everything's fine. She didn't offer to clean up the table or replace my meal. At that moment we decided to leave immediately. My fiance paid the check, though I told him not to and we left. We told the manager what happened but she didn't offer to do anything about it. She said that the drunken man had been up there for hours and they had received other complaints.
I will never go back to this place. A waste of time and money. If you want a decent meal with nice atmosphere go somewhere else. Seriously.
Planned a dinner with my wife and another couple befor we did some Christmas shopping. We had enjoyed dinner at Paradiso's many other times food was good and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. We began our night at the bar with a glass of wine while we waited for our friends. When they arrived we were taken to be seated. Our server arrived and explained the specials. Shortly thereafter we placed our order and got out salads. Our salads were served with very tasty dressings of bleu cheese, ranch and a balsamic vinaigrette... little did we know, the salads would end up being the highlight of the night. We waited and waited for our entrees and inquired with the server after about 30 minutes. She said the kitchen was backed up because of a banquet and our food would be out soon. Our entrees were brought out 45 minutes after we finished our salads. They arrived less than warm. We refused the entrees and asked to speak with the manager. She came out and was apologetic and asked what she could do for us... seriously? Anyway, we asked for fresh entrees to be prepared and brought out. They arrived in 15 minutes hot and tasty. The check was brought out and there was NO compensation for the cold entrees or long wait. I asked to speak with Sal the owner. Sal arrived at our table and it was very apparent that he had a very negative attitude about having to deal with us. Not a people person for this type of exchange. He offered $15.00 off eack check which I think was less than acceptable. Knowing he wasn't going to budge I settled, which is what he wanted. Our entire stay for dinner was 2 1/2 hours, as we watched people come and go. At one point we watched two other parties receive their food, eat, and leave with take out boxes before we even received our cold entrees. We were the last ones to leave the upper dining room and were very unhappy in Westminster.
Not Family Friendly!!! Poor Service. Slow. Loud. Food was fair.
Unfortunately, the police were called (into the upstairs dining room) due to the lewd, vulgar and improper conduct of some unruly customers that were allowed to carry on until the police arrived (called by a customer that had been threatened). It was like an episode from COPS. Interesting that restaurant management didn't do anything. Family friendly? Hardly. The owner / manager didn't even seem to care that one of the obnoxious customers actually threatened another customer (who had his wife and small child with him). Carroll's Best? I don't think so. There are much better places to take your family.
Stick to the Italian entrees; they are pretty good and authentic. If you like a lot of sauce you'll be happy; if you don't make sure they know that. The staff is very friendly but sometimes it can take a long time for the food to come out especially with larger partiesThe salads are kind of plain. They use iceberg lettuce a few tomatoes and sometimes those aren't ripe. The desserts are average.
After experiancing a few nice dinners here, I thought what a lovely place to have a girls lunch for my best girlfriend, getting married in two days. I couldn't have been more incorrect. After a 22 minute wait for Italian Wedding soup, we were informed by the inexperianced waiter that we would have another 10 minute wait for the dinner rolls. We left. Terrible service, really a big disappointment for this special day. The owner was not helpful. Very unfortunate.
Paradiso's is close enough to perfect for me. Whether casually dining light in the bar area or looking for informal-formal dining upstairs, downstairs, or on the patio in good weather, the food and service excel. Their Italian wedding soup is too good to pass up, even if it's just a cup. Salads are fresh and perfectly dressed. Specials are exactly that, even though it is hard for me to resist the pasta because their wide variety of sauces all are superb - richly textured with layers of flavor: to savor them is almost like sipping a fine wine, which you can also have with your meal at reasonable cost. If you are near Westminster with an appetite for Italian food, there's no need to head to Baltimore's Little Italy. Paradiso's compares favoably with the best and is head and shoulders above the rest.
Very nice atmosphere, although can be noisy with large groups. Excellent caesar salad dressing, garlic bread. Tried two main dishes, veal parmisean and sausage with pasta in marinara sauce. Dessert, had the best cheesecake I have ever tasted. Great way to end the dinner.
