Good dishes but overpriced
I had been waiting for some time to visit Charleston after seeing many positive reviews. The food was generally good, but nothing wowed me as you would ordinarily expect from a $100+ meal, not including alcohol. The service was attentive and perhaps a little stifling. For instance, when my dining partner left the table before any food arrived, the assistants came back to straighten her utensils and re-point the corners of the table linens. The restaurant reminded me of an experience at Emeril's in New Orleans, where it seemed like more attention was paid to making the restaurant seem exclusive than was focused on the food. The dishes were very beautifully presented. Our server was a little too pretentious for my liking. Ordering is by the course (3-6) and portion sizes are smaller. Entrees were good to very good, but I found the dessert to be disapointing.
My dining partner and I had the following:
A fennel cold soup with Parmesan crisp
Lobster and crab bisque
Shrimp grits
Romaine salad with white peaches, stilton, pine nuts and balsamic ving.
Soft shell crab
Roast duck with cherry sauce
Beef tenderloin
