Despite its name and location--Mt. Vernon Stable is not some high end steak place along Baltimore's famed Charles Street corridor. But it is one of the most consistent, quality, inexpensive eateries amongst those that charge twice as much. The menu is typical bistro--gourmet sandwiches, burgers, wraps, salads, veggie stuffs, a li'l seafood--all with fun quirky names. They even offer a Sunday brunch. They also make wonderful drinks and don't skimp on the alcohol. I've traveled all over the country and Mt. Vernon Stables offers some of the most fun, respectful, cooperative, attentive and prompt service I've ever experienced in a local bistro. If you really want to be relaxed, trot downstairs to the lounge which has more private booths but offers all you'd get upstairs. And it always seems to be open day or night! Give it a try. [On a personal note--this is not a place for the homophobic as it sits in the middle of Baltimore's gay & lesbian community and most of its patrons are outwardly such.]
This restaurant in MtVernon is very convenient to many social events I find myself invited to. The food is generally pretty good, but if you have a group say over 6 people....it gets alittle dicey. Granted, the one time I had 26 people and that is difficult for a saturday nite. It could have been handled better and they refused to split the check, even into thirds would have been more manageable. I have enjoyed the pasta offerings, they have nightly specials in several categories and when the linguini is combined with a seafood medley of shrimp and scallops it is great.
Friendly service, great food, reasonable prices. I've tried several items on the menu at different times and always had a great meal. Ask about steaks, the servers know which chefs tend to overcook or undercook.
