La Palapa Grill & Cantina
La Palapa Grill & Cantina is committed to providing only the freshest and highest quality of Mexican cuisine in a distinctive Hacienda decor setting, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, with exceptional prices, live Mariachi style music on weekends, and the real flavors of MA(C)xico. We have created a unique restaurant concept around original recipes. Beyond tacos, enchiladas and burritos... we offer a tour of authentic Mexican gastronomy; from our delicious ceviche and mouth-watering mole, to our more traditional tamales and equally delectable quesadillas. Our bar is the proud home of the Baltimore Ravens' Roost No. 69. It is without a doubt the witness of fun nights under the Maryland sky, and the best host of good friends and great times.
After being named Howard County’s best Mexican restaurant, we decided to give it a try. What a huge disappointment. Let’s start with the family across from me. The husband’s order came out wrong and they did not bring him the correct dish for another 30 minutes. Needless to say the whole family was done eating and he was not interested in “chowing down” a meal while his family waited for him to finish. Also the couple behind us never received one of their dishes. It seemed there were issues all around us and the place was not even busy. After 40 mins our food came out. I order the enchiladas verdes and my wife ordered the chicken taco salad. The chicken in the salad was good, and the vegetables were fresh, however the shell was soaked in grease and made both of us feel sick. The enchiladas were so cold, it seemed as if they were accidently put in a fridge instead of under a heat lamp. Better service at Taco Bell, and better tasting food at home. I will not be back. The chips and salsa were good, nice homemade fresh salsa.
The web site shoudl put the hours in not just lunch, dinner and brunch. Does lunch start at 11:00 or 11:30? Is brunch 10-1:00 or later. Love the restuarant but when trying to arrange to meet people for an early lunch it is diffcult to fid out how early it can be.
This place was like a college-town type bar. They had some good music and a big dance floor. They also have a HUGE TV for the games, etc. I didn't try the food, but the drinks were decent and not too expensive.
Very good Mexican food and margaritas. Service was great and food comes out fast. A little on the pricy side for Mexican, but miles better than Don Pablo's or Chevy's. The groiund beef burrito is my favorite, and rice and refried beans taste very authentic.
I had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised--the service was excellent, the food was great and plentiful, and the price reasonable. My chips were fresh and the salsa was very good, as was the main course and my Swirl. I would definitely go back.
I would not recommend this place. The salsa and chips are ok.The food is below average compared to other mexican restaurants in the area but worst of all is the service. From the host seating us older very rude lady.Just threw our menus on the table and walked away. To the manager or owers daughter mid 30s looking woman tries to sound pleasant but really doesnt address any customers concerns. At all costs avoid this place.
I've been to Mi Casa on route 40 and it may have better chips but La Palapa has a better feel to it. Mi Casa's salsa is more of a picante while Palapa's is more of a 'saucy' salsa if that makes any sense. The out door seating is nice and the quasi-outdoor seating is even better. Plus the location is great for walking around after dinner.
One of the rules that I made for myself was to stop frequenting chain restaurants. So I took a flyer on La Palapa since it was the one non-chain Mexican place that I had seen.
I keep going back. They have great food in Texas-sized portions. They serve all of the good beers from south of the border and a drink that is a hit with the ladies, the Sangria Swirl with a dollop of frozen margarita in a glass of Sangria. They also make one of the best margaritas that I have come across, and I am not a fan of tequila.
They have both indoor and outdoor dining areas and a bar that is the roughly the same size as the indoor dining area.
There is a mariachi band that makes its rounds through the dining area serenading the diners and there is frequently live music on the weekends.
Overall, it is a great place to hangout with friends and talk, eat, and drink. Their service is very good and very friendly. This place is always on my short list of places to go to.
