Shinjuku Station, Tokyo

Shinjuku station was a good place to stay in Tokyo. We stayed in Century Southern tower hotel shinjuku. It was great. Rooms were big and clean. Beautiful hotel. Very near the JR shinjuku station. Lots of shopping places and eating places. Really enjoyed this hotel.

The Shinjuku station is a railway station located in the heart of tokyo Japan. Simply put, this is the go to destination for tourists who've just come into the city from the airport. The ride from Narita airport to Shinjuku station by the path train is about $35. As far as accessibility goes, the Shinjuku station is terrible. There is very little handicapped access and getting suitcases up and down steps so you can take the train to the airport is a pain. The one thing that struck me immediately about the Shinjuku station was how immaculately clean it was. Its beautiful. Upon walking out of it, especially at night, the night lights of Tokyo hit you almost immediately. I don't speak Japanese, but, I didn't have much trouble buying railway tickets here. upon my first arrival I ended up taking a cap from the station to my hotel. It was a big mistake since that 6 block ride cost me roughly $45. the streets in this area are crowded beyond belief with traffic. Shopping inside or around the station is very expensive. Don't be fooled...the shop owners know if they catch your eye first, you are likely to spend more with them. Buying electronics in this area is very expensive and you're probably better off buying these things at home unless you see something unique. There are some fast food restaraunts nearby with reasonable prices for food and there are also 7/11 marts around. Eating isn't extremely expensive but you can probably do best if you shop around.

The streets were a bit too confusing but it doesn't matter because it was fun while it lasted. I loved all the lights and the shopping. The electronics there aren't as expensive as it is here back in the states, advanced technology speaking.. and the people were super friendly. I did not have one bad moment here at all and if given the chance, I would go back here.

Yes, there are shops in here. Inexpensive curry and food. If you eat at the curry shop, you have to insert money into a machine and then present the ticket to the cook. Shops with reasonable prices on hair accessories and other cutsie stuff. Just follow the signs since it's easy to get lost.

ShinJukU...I am someone who is a frequent traveler to Japan and though I havent seen all the places that one should aspire to see, I have seen quite a few of them... And Shinjuku is one such place....Its a place for youngsters, for fashion freaks, for businessmen, for old and young....It is one place in Tokyo which is full of energy...Its completely unlike the normal Japan that you will come across, its not the usual serene, quiet and peaceful japan...Shinjuku is a place which is full of energy, full of noise...and LOTS and LOTS of people... And this can all be felt from the moment you step on the Shinjuku station... The sstation in itself is an industrial marvel....Its huge...NO infact...its very very very huge...Someone having a bad day, no Japanese proficiency, can actually get lost inside the station. Yes the station is that big... You have malls, you have lots of different railway and metro lines....people all around you...lots of entrances and exits...different levels to combat...and what not... Shinjuku is definitely a place which one should avoid not missing during their trip to Japan...HIghly recommended... Coming from a place called Mumbai, in India...I have never been intimidated by seeing a lot of people on railway stations....but seeing a dummy Mumbai in Japan was an experience in itself... The verdict is - HIghly Recommended

Hey - I am from New York. I commute through major stations. The politeness does not end. The packing of people into a single car does not either. This station is not for the faint of heart. If you take a train during rush hour - be advised - expect a nice hug. The station is a great hub. A netro stop in its own right and JR line as well. The JR line is the secret to traveling the city. It allows you to avoid transfers that make no sense otherwise.
