Mandela's Bar
Description
A relaxed ambience prevails in this South African owned restaurant and bar located behind the main Plaza. The food ranges from typical Peruvian fare, European style baguettes, through to African influenced spicy chicken, and hummus, olive and cheese platters. The ethnic decor is complemented by a furnished terrace boasting a breathtaking view of the Plaza – ideal for a sunset snap. Once you have sampled the eclectic menu, shared a cocktail with the mixed clientele of tourists and Cusquenans, settle into a sofa in the lounge area and soak up the beats of one of the local bands that plays here (W-F, from 10p). Music varies from live jam sessions, freestyle jazz and tribal drumming: all free entrance. Regular parties are thrown here by the friendly and informative staff. Cash only. - Rose Latham
I wholeheartedly recommend this place situated behind the cathedral (up the road directly to the right and then turn 1st left. BUT please just go at night, climb the ladder onto the roof and gaze at the vista. It was so stunning that my poor old hubby proposed! The cathedral, church and hill sides are all lit up... I'm going back next year and I truly hope you all aren't there as I want the place to myself. Take a coat though, those Cuzco evenings come with a built in brrr factor.
bbeing a south african and finding a south african in the middle of mystical magical peru offering a little bit of south african hospitality was a dream come true. the ambience, decor and helpfulness of waitering staff epitomised for me our south african hospitality and love of all people. food was wholesome and delicious. and decor BREATHTAKING. art and constitution wall a shaft of brillance.
Everything was just perrfect!!
Food, ambience, music, and most of all, the people. Peru is a wonder, and places like Mandela's bar are a manifestation of its beauty.
