We ate dinner here one evening after doing a wine tasting tour all day. We had eaten there in the past and had a very good experience.
However, this time I ordered a steak which was very similar to a piece of rubber. I couldn't even cut it with my knife and no one in the establishment even offered to replace it.
Great beer, great traditional, rustic, country fare. Awesome setting. Very cold reception and sincerely disapointing in that regard. It was unclear as to how one should order. Apparently just walking in a sitting at the bar ready to order pints is not acceptable. One should be welcomed into a roadside pub, there to be served. Just be a bit more welcoming is all it needs. I will give it another try on a Tuesday night which seems to be a busy night rather than a Sunday afternoon. I hope it was just a off day.
Took my visiting Illinois family of four there for lunch over a September Saturday and we absolutely loved the atmospher and charm. Our waiter was brand new but helpful and delightful. We questioned him about the internet story on the tavern. The jail door serving as a gate to the courtyard, the resident ghost and bright red phone booth on the grounds. Ordering our lunch was unique and walking outside to our courtyard table with a large wooden spoon to be placed in an empty wine bottle, numbered with our order was unique. I would definitely go back in the near future and have told many of my friends about it. MB
P.S. The liver and onions were incredible.
The Hunter's Head Tavern is a great place to relax, unwind and enjoy the atmosphere and the food. Their bread and butter are to die for! And even though we haven't tried all the items on the menu everything that we have tried is very good. Prices are competive and a reasonable value vs. other places that are close to Middleburg. Yes, the way you order your food is a little unique, but that's all part of the charm of eating at a Pub! So, we believe you should make this a place to try soon!
Tucked in among the green lush hills of horse country is an authentic English restaurant that serves delicious comfort food that will thrill your soul. I suspect a lot of people know about this gem since it was packed when we arrived at around 1:l5-1:30 on a rainy, chilly Saturday -- just the place to be with its fireplaces and cozy ambience. We were thrilled to be seated at the last available table. Next we were served a fabulous warm yeasty bread, followed by a potato-sausage soup -- chunks of potatoes and other vegetables and herbs swimming in a lovely clear rich broth. Our entrees didn't disappoint either. We enjoyed it so much that we ordered a loaf of bread and a couple orders of soup to go for dinner that evening. It is such a feast for the soul that I would suggest only well-behaved children; fussy or crying ones would break the revelry.
This restaurant is super awesome. It's aura is very England. It's food is authentic English and organic too. Which came from their own local organic farm. This is a friendly environment which added a plus to it's romantic air. The price is very reasonable. Stop by in this superb restaurant in Northern Virginia.
