Mediocre experience that turned terrible.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/24/09
The ride itself wasn't too bad, but it's probably not what you'd expect. The cars are very under-powered for San Francisco, and our car would sometimes start out okay, but then loose power to the point we could barely get moving on a slim incline. I apologize to all the SF drivers that had to deal with me. Also remember that you're in a tiny car in traffic; you breathe in a lot more exhaust than you'd think. GoCars are all the stress and headache of waiting in traffic without the enclosed, atmosphere controlled environment of a real car. Second, be very careful of your time. They claim that they give you a 15 minute buffer before you head out, but that is a completely false claim. Their timekeeping is TERRIBLE. We kept track of the time and found ourselves back in the garage (and standing in the office) with a good 5 minutes to spare, and well within the buffer. But the guys behind the desk argued rudely, demanding that we were 25 minutes over. There is absolutely no way this can be true, even allowing for the time we spent in line and watching the safety video. I ended up paying for the extra time, and we left angry. The reason I'm writing this review is because I just realized they charged me $25 extra, not the $12 the stupid young man behind the counter told me I would be charged. Turns out, the ticket we got for $30 that should have given us an hour, only technically paid $65 worth of an hour, which costs $71. Was there fine print somewhere that I missed? These kind of sneaky billing tactics make me furious. We're still angry about the experience. The only sore spot on our vacation. When you visit SF this year, avoid GoCars. Go for a walk instead.

Worst way to see san francisco
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/09
These things break down easily. They are also very dangerous, you have go as slow as possible or they will roll over. Worst of all they use a smelly, noisy, lawn mower style engine that will make you and the environment around you very sick... An expensive way to have a horrible time in the city.

The GoCar broke down and no refund
By saigonborn, 6/30/09
I rented the GoCar for a day. Midway through the tour we approached a hill. The car started slowly dying slowly so we had to push the car up an entire hill to avoid traffic. They gave us a replacement car, which came 1 hour later. We drove back to the station to cancel the entire tour. The attendant nickle and dime'd us and told me to call the main office. After three days of calling, the main office refused to refund my money claiming I had gone on half the tour before the GoCar broke down. Wow! I rented a GoCar, it broke down, and they would not refund my money.

Disaster and Danger
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/08
The first two cars we got didn't have working navigation. They told us that the tour would take 2 hours. 3 hours later we were 2 hours away and the go car people called yelling at us. We got lost, cold and were told to abandon the car on the street in a strange city. I had my 11 year old son with me and he was scared and cold and later got very sick. This could have been fun but we were not given enough information to make this a fun and safe trip. Luckily, we made it home safely but they charged us a fortune for getting lost and we had to pay a forturn to have our hotel come and rescue us. Don't do it!!!

The Best Way to See San Francisco
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/10/07
This was certainly the most fun way to see and visit the sites of San Francisco. The cars were comfortable and you couldn't get lost because of the GPS. Plus the cars have a little trunk so you can take a picnic along and stop and eat.

GO CAR HORROR STORY
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/7/07
Go cars gets no rating, they were SO POOR. the guy who manages the place is so run off his feet that he is sweating and flustered and all over the place. we were going to hire a bike from them, but decided the go car looked exciting...we should have opted for the bike ride! the engine on car 1 didn't start straight away, and when were going up a SMALL, ON THE TOUR MAP HILL, I had to get out as it would not move, even with just my husband in it. WE ARE NOWHERE NEAR OVERWEIGHT (i'm 5'6/65kg and my huband is 5'10/80kg). two larger guys sped past us up the hill. We then stopped off at the lookout over the golden gate bridge. BAD MISTAKE as the car wouldn't start again. we used a friendly local's phone to call the office...who didn't turn up AT ALL. we had to catch a taxi back and we discovered they hadn't searched the car park properly as they would have seen us at the end of it. I HAD STEAM COMING OUT OF MY EARS as we were on a day trip from san jose and had now wasted almost 4 hours with a car that didn't work. THEN THEY CHARGED US FOR AN HOUR WE DIDN'T EVEN USE. THIS COMPANY IS APALLING AND DESPERATELY NEEDS NEW/MORE/BETTER MANAGEMENT. It really soured our san fran trip (alcatraz was great), and I wished LOADS of bad energy on the guy who runs/manages the place. It was a horrible time and they charged us for it.

And I thought I did not want a tour!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/10/07
So I heard about this company from TV or some magazine some time ago. When I saw them by chance in San Fran I had some time and gave it a go. All I can say is WOW. Fun fun fun. This thing should be in every city. I don't like tours, but this I guess is a tour. It is an amazing concept. Why would anyone get on a tour bus again after trying this out????

A MUST!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/22/07
My boyfriend and I spent the weekend with a friend in San Fran. She had to work on Friday so we were on our own. We rented a Go Car, without a clear expectation for how long we'd want to tour. We went for about 6 hours and could have entertained ourselves for a few more hours! The tour takes you to all the major sites, but also to some areas even the locals don't know about! We laughed for a few hours straight just because driving the car was so much fun! Locals do dislike the cars and our friend made fun of us for most of the weekend...but it was worth every jibe!! We had sooooo much fun, saw everything and laughed like crazy! The GPS did go out on us for a short period of time...and a few times we had to backtrack to pick up instructions...to truly enjoy this you need a sense of humor and flexibility. Also, bring a cell phone so you can call the rental place if there is a problem. We'd do this again in a heartbeat. LOTS of fun!!!

Watch Out!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/06
Last time we were in San Francisco, we rented a scooter at the same location the go cars are at on the warf. We felt so safe and had a blast, we were gone the same amount of time as we were on the go car this time around. About 5 hours... It is a great way to see the city but I wish they hadn't gotten rid of the scooters...they were so much safer. These go cars are so underpowered that we barely made it up the hills that the tour tells you to go on. Very dangerous! The GPS didn't work half the time. From my experience the native's from San Fran can't stand these things! It was absolutely the worst thing I did in the city! If you don't mind being a sitting duck all day in San Fran traffic, you may enjoy it. I would not suggest this to anyone!
