Firefly - DC
Firefly, the quintessential urban neighborhood restaurant, offers contemporary American comfort food to the city's many 'regulars' who dine out several times a week. Enjoy favorites like our matzoh ball soup, mini pot roast and a variety of 'Urban Picnics' to share...or not. We also have many seafood and some vegetarian options. The menu is designed to utilize products from our local farms and farmers. Hand-picked to compliment the cuisine, our award-winning wine list shows an affinity for small winemakers and producers and our seasonal specialty cocktail menu offers a bevy of unique libations.
Firefly keeps getting better as it settles into the neighborhood and gets more accomplished. Seems to me that it can't quite decide what it's mission is, which is why the value equation leaves one feeling that it's 'pricey.' But it is a 'special birthday dinner' kind of restaurant, and I've been taken there by a friend with great taste for just that, so I'm not complaining! It's pretty, fun, a little too loud, very convenient, with good to very good service and a menu that is interesting and delivers on promises made. I'd like to be taken there regularly.
They have a nice selection of items, but as everything is Ala Carte, by the time you put together a decent meal, it gets expensive... I had water, a small salad (for $8), and Lamb Steaks, and that came to $30. My dinner companion had the same Lamb Steaks and potatoes.. The bill ended up being $60 for both... i would tell people to expect to pay $25 to $40 to come here...
It is also very small... You will get to know your dining neighbors very well!
While a bit pricey, the food is excellent. Convenient to metro. Clean and friendly. We will be going back. We went on a Wednesday night and it wasn't overly crowded. We sat on the couches next to the bar and watched the snow falling outside, Very serene.
Went to Firefly for Sunday Brunch after passing by on my way home. The deal is a prix-fixed menu which includes an appetizer and a main course. I had a wonderful spinach/mushroom frittata and my friend had the most unbelievable French Toast, which was done exactly right. Posh place, enjoyable and fun. Recommended.
