Description

How do you fondue? A visit to the sophisticated The Melting Pot introduces diners to the traditional and fun Swiss cooking style. Cheese, meat, seafood and dessert fondues dominate the menu at this swank restaurant with high-backed booths, romantic Lover's Lane section and spacious party room. Linger over a four-course fondue dinner; savor a creamy cheese fondue before show time or cap off the evening by swirling through a fondue dessert. Fondues are prepared tableside. Sip a specialty drink from the trendy bar overlooking granite tabletops and glistening fondue pots. Many of the wines from the Wine Spectator award winning wine list are offered by the glass.

The Big Night out....4 course meal...42 bucks a person!? Which isn't bad but you get very little actual entree. Boiling raw meat in an assortment of different broths on sticks is not a specialty. Granted it's an experience, but its costly for something that you could do at home. Go for the cheese ($16.00 for people) and the dessert, and have dinner elsewhere.

Great "fundue" The cheese, salad, and dessert are wonderful but the main course can be time consuming and varied in prep since I don't find it great to have us "cook" it at the table. However the other courses can be a meal in themselves, so I recommend just omitting it--save money, time and waistlines.

This place is fantastic for large parties. Everyone eats at the exact same time and does not leave hungry. NO fights and lots of drinking going on.The servers provide detailed information on the process, even if you have been there a gazillion times, and are available if you need anything throughout the 4 hour meal. I never had to raise my hand for a wait(ress, or) to notice me. The place is too dark for a 1st timer to recognize the food.

ive been twice. Save money and skip the main entree unless u wanna eat boiled meat. it was tasteless..........so u go for the appetizer and dessert....they call it cheese and chocolate. usually its over crowded and a popular place. the specialty drinks are way over priced. good for an occasional nice out maybe once a year

A little too hyped up and a bit pricey. But fun.
By CH, 8/17/06
While the Melting Pot is a dining experience that moves away from the norm, I hardly think it's worth the money. All food is served fondue style, giving customers the ability to dunk their food in various sauces (cheese, chocolate, etc). It's fun, but not really filling unless you want to fork over extra $$. Expect to spend roughly 25-30 per entree. You'll need appetizers and desserts if you want a full stomach. A cute place to take on a first date, but not one you'd go to very often. Not a kid-friendly environment as they could poke their eye out or burn themselves touching the pot and dipping the food. Look for the money saving coupon in the local magazine - they can take off half the cost of the meal.

Great Time!
By TeressaG., 8/15/06
This Melting Pot Restaurant was great. It's walking distance to the subway and Dupont Circle. Atmoshpere is wonderful, the drinks were absolutely fantastic, pricey but worth the price. It's on the high dollar range but its a good "special occassion" spot to go to. Or just go for salads and dessert.

A dining experience a little different from the norm. The food is tasty and the ambiance is great for a date or even a gathering of a few friends.

An interesting way to dine...
By James, 11/14/05
The Melting Pot is a fondue restaurant that's out of this world! If you can get your party to agree on what to eat, the Melting Pot is a great change of pace for dining. The food is wonderful and there's something about everyone having to cook their portion that brings the evening to life. I think the best part is of course the dessert! The chocolate sauces are great! I wasn't to keen on fondue before but now - I just may go every couple of months just for the fun of it.

This place is awesome
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/27/05
The food is always good. My favorite is the cheese appetizer and dessert course. They give you plenty of food so if you happen to do all 3 courses and are getting full they'll let you bring the extra's home. Yum!

You're the cook
By Julie, 10/3/05
This is a wonderful experience where you cook your own food the way you like it. The sauces are fabulous and there is nothing better on earth than the dark chocolate dessert fondue. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. It's fun. It's delicious. It has great atmosphere. You will not leave hungry!
