Known for its brilliant seafood for more than fifty years now, Phillips Seafood continues to delight epicureans with its perfectly cooked fresh fish and crustaceans. The most striking feature here is the daily buffet that allows seafood enthusiasts to dig into as much seafood as they can for a fixed price. The variety of dishes range from crab-cakes, jumbo shrimp to oysters and fishes. Steak and vegetables are also served here. Enjoy the delicious fare on outdoor crab decks or in the indoor dining area kept warm with a radiant fireplace.
The worst service ever I have experienced at a restaurant. I have had better service at a diner! The wait staff was so unorganized. Waited too long for silverware and my hot tea was cold before the waiter brought the sugar. The waiter reluctantly took my daughter's food order and walked away before taking my order while I was sitting at the same table. Overall the ambiance of this restaurant is gone.It could close and it would be no lost! The food was mediocre.
I agree with the reviews here , The food has gone downhill and the service was lackadaisical , we have gone here whenever we are in Washington but no more this place really sucks ,,, save your money!!!!
Went to Phillips early on a Monday evening in December. Everything looked good, but when it came to eating, most everything was from mediocre to very poor. The crab cakes were pretty good as well as the shrimp, but the baked fish dishes were horrible. Soups were very disappointing and certainly the desserts were awful. Service would be considered on the bad side. I was waiting for some pasta for over ten minutes, but no one would come over to serve me. I asked a food server, but she informed me that was not her job. The table server came over to say she would help us but was very lazy, wouldn't even fill the water. Not a bad value at $25 for dinner, but the taste and service made this place a NEVER RETUR N for us.
Well, I guess I should have believed the current reviewers, but I went with my son's love for the place. I don't at all mind paying $25 for a meal, but I expect something edible. This place was absolutely terrible. The shrimp were rubbery, the crab was all shells, the crab cakes were probably the worst I ever had, the paella wasn't even close, the jambalaya was worse than that, and the tuna was way overcooked - pretty typical for a buffet. I mean a bite of this, a bite of that - that's all you could stomach. The only thing worth eating was the macaroni-tuna salad and the dinner rolls, but it's a long way from $25. Now, for the service...our server brought our water while we were going through the buffet. One of the glasses(plastic) was cracked and water was all over the table and my chair. We asked for more napkins and water and she did finally come back, but that was the last we saw her and had to ask for the check - seems she was talking with her mother. Thank God, the Beer was cold. I would stay away from this place at any cost - believe what you read about this place - garbage!!
Buffet has sea food but you will pay the price, all I’m saying the food is pricy and substandard, you will go for the sea food but end up cracking shells. Crab cakes tasks like flour, they have shrimp but need to peel, have crab legs but need to crack, I see is chicken
Excellent after so many years: I have been coming to this place since I was a kid, and I still excited when I take a trip there for lunch. Could be the best reason to go to downtown that I can think of! The fried shrimp is amazing, not to mention the fried fish! The service is also amazing. Those guys work so hard, and so fast, and the food is always good and always right. Despite the long lines for lunch, this is truly the place to go for fast quality seafood.....
I moved to the DC area last year and have been putting off going to the Phillips here because of the so-so reviews. I love the Phillips in Ocean City and I didn't want to be disappointed. I wish I would have ignored the reviews and given DC's Phillips a try much sooner! I went there for lunch on a Tuesday with my family and it was amazing. The buffet had something for everyone. The seafood was delicious. There was a lot of variety and it was all well-seasoned. Even the steamed clams had great flavor. The rest of the buffet had roast beef, pot roast, rotisserie and fried chicken, and tons of other things. There were salads and incredible soups (the cream of crab was decadent and delicious). I can't say enough about how great everything was, even the service. There weren't crab legs at lunch, but they could be ordered for an extra $7. Honestly, I didn't even miss them. At $16.99, the lunch buffet was an incredible bargain and my whole family left very, very happy (and full!).
Being from the south, I suppose my expectations were too high in reference to flavor. I ordered the Clam Bake for two. The seafood was very fresh. However, the crab legs were very soggy and a hassle to deal with. Anyhow, the biggest disappointment was the fact that the food was not seasoned. From the meat down to the vegetables, everything was quite bland. It was a huge disappointment to the taste buds. I had two friends refer me to this restaurant as well as the front desk clerk. I seriously hope this is not the best seafood DC has to offer.
If you like seafood it's great. The rest buffet is hit or miss. I go at least twice a month so that must say something. Very good crabs unlimited. Sofya is a good waitress I've had some slackers though. But you only have to rely on them to empty the crab buckets and drinks so it's mostly self serve.
