Consistent excellence

My favorite D.C. restaurant, I have had dinner there about eight times in the past ten years.
Magnificent food and gracious service in a charming atmosphere. Not a huge wine list, but high quality.
1789 can get a bit crowded, and so is probably not the best place for those with hearing problems. The bathroom is up a flight of stairs, which might be a problem for some.
Don't even bother trying to find nearby street parking, just pull up to the front door and use their valet parking.
Expensive, and worth every cent.
