Ben's Chili Bowl, Washington

What can I say... you just can't go wrong.

The one place in DC where ambiance and status are not needed. It is a living legend. The best chili on the East Coast. Ben's took the chili dog and broke the mold. Even if you are a vegetarian you still can enjoy the firey smoked goodness of the chili in a meatless version. It is truly a place to go on U street.

I frequent Ben's Chili Bowl and this spot is more than just a place to eat, it's an experience. I would recommend Ben's to any and everybody because you can't visit D.C. without eating at this succulent eatery. The chili cheese fries will have you nearly biting off your finger tips. The prices are great and the hospitality and memorabilia that adorn the walls are an eyefull.

Big Ben's Chili bowl was awesome. The enviroment is unbeatable. I encourage everyone visiting D.C. to go there! The workers and regulars are so genuine and hospitable! Don't miss the opportunity!

The place is conveniently located on U Street, very close to Republic Gardens...we always go there after RG

I heard about Ben's all the way in St. Louis. I walked in and saw famous picture of like Bill Cosby and Serena Williams and I was like okay. It was tha bomb!

Ben's is an icon in the DC food scene, and it's easy to see why. The service is always friendly, and if you go more than once, the staff gets to know you and treats you like an old friend. The signature chili half-smokes are always a good choice, and the food is always fresh. They also have tasty vegetarian options, which is a boon in today's culinary world. The place screams nostalgia, and you never know whether you'll share the counter with a politico, a social activist, or even a Hollywood star (Bill Cosby makes it a point to visit whenever he's in town). The place can get noisy (especially after shows at the nearby Lincoln Theatre or 9:30 Club), but it's aways quick. Ben's also has some of the most generous hours, and is perfect for a late-night snack.

I live in MD and whenever I come into DC (all the time) i get food at Ben's. I go to school in NYC and miss Ben's hardcore. Get the chili half smoke!!!
