Excellent! B has been serving up 'Food for the Soul' for years. It's one of the best, upscale, long-standing, soul-food restaurants in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. B has maintained her heritage, exquisite style and finesse at the restaurant and I'd absolutely recommend dining here again and again.

To much MSG, to much salt in the greens, Sea bass over cooked on one side and poor table service all of this and very expensive makes for a terrible restuarant experience. This is not southern food like my mom cooked I do not think she had any MSG and she would have never served us greens that tasted like these. Save your money and time do not bother with this disappointing restuarant. Staff would reach over your plate to fill water of person across from you which I would think is a basic no no in the waiter business.

Won't waste my time: Ok I love the setting and the service. It's a very nice ambience of smooth sophisticated music and a sea of differnt shades of brown seated throughout the place. The food on another hand is horrible! I order the half breast roasted w/mashed potatoes and greens. The chicken was bland, and the greens were disgusting, I ended up eating all of my mashed potatoes and trying to pawn the rest of the food of on co-workers when I got back to the office. The strawberry shortcake was the ONLY thing that will convince me to return

Delicious and Flavorful: Given as a Birthday present, a certificate to have dinner for 2. The atmosphere was comfortable, and yet quite pleasing to the eye. The staff and waiters were so very courteous and friendly, quite knowlegable about the menu and preparation.Serve time was approx, 20 min. but once presented it was fabulous. Presentation was perfect, plate and food, looked fresh and was full of aroma.Meat was tender and succulant. Vegetables crisp and full of flavor, not over done. The price was not outlandish, but seemingly appropriate to the type of dish.

Never been disappointed. Great atmosphere and expectacular food. Not exactly down home feel to the restaurant but certainly down home for the taste buds.

Hit and Miss

Lunch for 5 was an inconsistent melange. Bloody Marys were great. Our basket of bread was a dissapointingly cold, dry array. Fried green tomatoes well presented but over browned, ground chicken wraped in lettuce appetizers were bland and pointless. Calimari were perfectly cooked and delicious. Wicked greens are just too bitter and vinegared for our tastes. ( I grew up on greens and these are not for most palettes especially those inexperience to the world of collards) The fried catfish, and crab cakes were near perfect however. All in all, maybe an off day for the restaurant but just fair.
