While visiting WA a couple of weeks ago, a friend of my beau recommended this place for great food and steaks. We loved it. The service was great and the food was delicious. We also loved the ambiance/decor. We will be dining here again on our next trip to WA.

Good Meal - But Not a Great Meal
By ,
I was in DC on business, dining alone, and the Chop House looked like a great place to get a steak. I love the feel of the place, and enjoy trying local brews. I started out a little disappointed when they seated me at a table in the middle of the dining room, surrounded by other patrons on all sides. When you're a party of one, it's nice to be in a booth or against a wall or window so you have someplace to look other than at other people talking and eating and so that you don't feel like you're in a fish bowl yourself. Service was friendly, but slow. It took way too long for my waitress to take my drink order and bring my beer. The folks at the next table were having the same experience. Has anyone seen our waitress? Likewise, once my food was ordered, it took a very long time to arrive. If I was having scintillating conversation with my wife it probably would have been less noticeable, but I wasn't on a date so it seemed a very long wait. My pepper-crusted New York strip, when it arrived, was good. Not great - but good. For $30 it probably should have been more memorable. The baked potato was excellent, as was the terrific fresh-baked corn bread that came before my meal. The beer (Bride's Ale?) was also very good. Great atmosphere, good food, a little slow. I'll go back again if my wife is with me, and if I have plenty of time.

Pleasant Surprise

My husband and I happened upon the DC Chophouse on our recent vacation. We were tired and hungry, and the chophouse was like a beacon. Needless to say, we will be returning on our next visit to DC. The food, service, ambiance and value were all amazing. For all DC Visitors, the Chophouse is a MUST visit!

Apparently brewery is an afterthought
By ,
My wife and I were excited to find this place while on the way back through DC on our honeymoon. We both love beer (brew our own) and are friends with the Rock Bottom brewmaster in Chicago. Not sure if we went on an off day, but the bourbon stout we had was quite honestly one of the worse beers I've ever tasted. Just bad. Couldn't even finish it. Off flavors, vanilla, weird esters. I've had bourbon stouts before, so I think I know what they should taste like. The regular oatmeal stout was pretty good, not amazing, but quite good. So it's rather strange the bourbon stout (which is just the oatmeal stout aged a bit in bourbon barrels) would be so different. The smoky porter was interesting, but way too smoky to the point it overpowered any other nuance in the beer. And this is from someone who drinks very peaty single malt. So yeah, we just weren't impressed. Everything seemed over the top, including the food. For instance, the calamari had both a sauce on it and a dipping sauce, either of which would have been enough on their own.
