Used this bakery a few years ago for my baby shower & everyone love the cake . So I wanted to use them for my mother surprise engagement party. Went to the bakery 2 weeks before the party to do a cake tasting and place an order. Was given paper work from the rep that helped me with all the info and to pay in full that Friday. Couldn’t make it that Friday so I called to let them know that I got called in to work & could I come in the next day to make the full payment. Rep stated that I could do that and it wouldn’t be a problem. Went in the next day to make the payment, when I got there I was told that they couldn’t find my order & that it was never place and they don’t place cake orders on Saturday . They gave me another appointment for Monday 5 days before the party. Went and replaced the order for a 2 tier cake asked them to put black n white roses on the top layer and a ribbon with bow around the base of the top tier. The baker was given a print out of a picture to go by.Was told that she can do a real ribbon and bow instead of one in fondant. This was supposed to be ready by 10am and p/u on 12/17/11. When I got there it was very crowed which wasn’t a problem. Told the sales rep that I was there to p/u the cake. Rep walked around then went to the back, I was waiting at this point for a good 10mins. So when I saw her I asked what was taken so long, she then stated that the cake had to be place into a special box which she couldn’t do. So I waited another 15 min then the cake was finally brought out. The cake looked beautifully from a far. When I got the cake to the parking lot I really got a good look at it well as my friend that I had with me. The bottom tier was fine but I can’t say that for the top. The flowers where falling into each other and some weren’t fully formed & the ribbon was uneven around the base, the bow looked like a pretzel. Nothing like the picture I gave. Called them on the phone to let them know that I wasn’t happy they said to bring it back in . The sales girl asked what the problem was I told her to look at the cake and u tell me. She did and said o she will take it back to the baker to fix it. 15 mins later they brought it back out with the flowers fixed… I asked what about the ribbon …. She stated that there is nothing that they can do about that. I said ok then I needs some money taken off this. This is not a small mistake u can’t see, this is not a $30, $ 40 cake I paid $120.00 for this & it don’t look like the picture. Rep stated that she has to go get the manager . He comes to the front and says that we have fixed the flowers on the cake for free. I then said you should have b/c they were messed up. I said what about the ribbon & bow , he says that’s the best that they can do . I told him that the ribbon was done in icing when it was supposed to be a real one. He then say your deposit wasn’t in on time. I told him that wasn’t an issue on my behalf, that it was the rep who took it (which I gave him her name). Then I asked what does that have to do with it the cake, it wasn’t going to be made that Monday, the cake looked rushed . He then tells me to go by a ribbon and put it on the cake…. Then we started to argue the store is crowed and the customers can’t believe what was coming out his mouth. I told him if you couldn’t do it or if a ribbon was needed you should have contacted me. You’re just going to but what you want on the cake without contacting me. I asked him would he give this to his daughter, he couldn’t answer. A girl comes from the back stated that we need to calm down before the police are called and asked what the issue was. Filled her in she then tells him that he is wrong he walks away and leaves me there. At this point I need a cake my event starts less the 3 hours so he knew that I was stuck. No one apologized except the young girl that took the cake to the car .
Products are delicious; prices are resonable; service is lousy. Two out of three isn't bad!
Employees always seem harried and impatient even if the store is not busy; if they could learn to relax and smile, this bakery would be prefect! But I go to Serpe's to buy delicious baked goods at a resonable price, so the poor service attitude doesn't bother me.
I bought steak rolls yesterday and they were only 1/2 the size that they normally are, yet still charged full price. When I asked the sales person to relay a message to management that they made the rolls too small, she acted as though they would not be receptive to hearing that. Also, on past occasions I have purchased stale items, even though on one occasion I was assured the item was fresh. I agree with the other reviewers that the sales people are rude. I think this probably filters down from an unpleasant management.
The staff at this bakery gets an A+ in my book, the are friendly and efficent. i have used them several times and they have yet to dissappoint. I encourage you to give them a try....you'll leave with a smile.
