My friend and I went to Jasmine’s last night to use my Groupon before it expires this Saturday. What a horrible experience! When we showed up we were told there was a 20-30 minute wait even though I had a reservation and there were quite a few empty tables on the bar side of the restaurant. The hostess said we could sit at an empty bar table. After 15 minutes of waiting without anyone approaching us, I went to the bar and asked if we had a server or did we need to order from the bar? The bartender said she was our server but was too busy to take care of us, then she sighed and said she be over as soon as possible. Another 15 minutes went by before she finally came out from behind the bar and went to the table next to us (which sat down a few minutes after us). She said she’d be right with them - what about us??? She proceeded to head to another table. After a few minutes, the other table gave up and left. When the bartender came back by, she hesitated at the now empty table then walked right by us – again!! What were we invisible?? A server finally came over and said he’d take our order but the food was going to take a long time since there was only one cook in the kitchen. I ordered a martini and he said they were out “the bar is really crowded, look at all the empty bottles”. What are they selling out of all their liquor? I didn’t realize I was in Dewey at The Starboard closing??? Now during all this time not one person working at Jasmine’s said “I’m sorry”, during all this time, the owner was not more than 10 feet away from us. I didn’t see him do much other than bring sushi to the bar once. He could have taken our order, he could have made our drinks. I would have thought he had a vested interest in the business. Needless to say, I will NEVER, EVER go back. If you want sushi, drive a little further into Wilmington to Mikimoto’s where you’ll get great food AND great service!!
The firt time I went with my wife was for lunch the service, food was great and all. But wow what a diffeence a day makes we went back the following week tues.8/4/09 for lunch and it was terriable our waiter was an elderly man with an attitude, sushi we ordered had to be sent back but what we saw was the worst, the person who prepaired our sushi washed his face & blew his nose in the same sink were food was being prepaired it was'nt a good sight not good at all!!!!!!!!!!
The decor is swank & modern. The cocktail menu is a tad pricey but drinks were strong and a good size. I had a Cucumber Margarita for $12 but I only needed the one, it was that strong and yummy. For an app, we had a big bowl of edamme for $5. For dinner, we had the lamb, mango chicken, tuna rolls and general tsao chicken. All of it was delicious and all entrees except for the lamb was under $16, which isn't too bad. Servings were a good size too. Great meal in a surprising location. Oh and they had shades pulled down over the windows so we didn't have to stare at the strip mall!
Don't believe the hype. This place is good if you're comparing it to KFC. They're clearly trying, but everything is just a little off. The interior decor is interesting, except that they don't block the windows, so you look out at the rest of the strip mall and watch the shopper walk past, looking in. Put up some shades!
The seabass dish was just a shame. It's a shame to take a fish that's basically an endangered species and cook it like this. The sauce completely overpowered the fish, and it was the least tender chilean sea bass we've ever had. It tasted like they poured a cup of orange juice over the fish after they finished cooking it. The crab stuffed shrimp were overcooked and I think I still have a strange aftertaste in my mouth a week later.
As I stated in the beginning, they're clearly trying, but it's like a poorman's knockoff of a good city restaurant. I definitely didn't forget that I was in Delaware at any point of the evening. For god's sake, buy some shades for the windows and block out the rest of the strip mall. The rest of the interior has potential.
I usually find sushi at 'fusion cuisine' resturantes to be sub-par, but this is some of the freshest I've had. This is one of the few places I just order sashmi to enjoy the fish without rice. The prices are high as well as the quality.
It was like eating in a NY City restaurant in Wilmington, Delaware! What's even better is that not only do they serve Japanese cuisine, but they also offer Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese dishes! The spicy tuna rolls were to die for! The crabby wonton had just a little too much cream cheese for my palette, but everything else was delicious. And don't forget to end your meal with a bowl of the green tea iced cream!
this place has great sushi. Hands down it has fresher sushi then even mikimotos. Jasmine also has great entrees and limited apetizers. A bit over priced and if you order susi by the piece you only get ONE piece as opposed to Mikimotos where you get 2 or 3 peices per order. Basically it has somewhat better sushi then mikimotos and it is more of a sit down restaurant as opposed to the younger bar scene of mikimotos. However it is an excellent restauran if you are willing to drop some money.
