Description

Joe Morozin Sr. opened his very first eatery when he was sixteen years old. The road was paved with hard work, dedication and perseverance. It led from the GI Inn to White Way to the Torresdale Diner to The Dining Car. The Torresdale Diner was originally located at 8828 Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia from 1960 to 1980. In 1979 its name changed to The Dining Car. The "new" Dining Car was constructed on-site in New Jersey and trucked to its current location at 8826 Frankford Avenue in 1980. Not wanting to interrupt service to its customers, both diners were actually operating at the same time for a short while. Some customers even picked up there coffee cups from the old diner and walked over to the new diner to sit and finish up there. Once all of the patrons were served, the "oldac diner was closed. Since that time, the "new" diner has been operating 24 hours, 7 days a week. Not only was the building new, the diner's approach to food was also. Taking The Dining Car from convenience restaurant to destination restaurant offering a full array of American/Continental cuisine. The facility also offers a full service bakery.

Definitely nothing special about the food at all. We decided to check it out since it was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, but it did not live up to the expectations at all. I had a western omelette which was ok, but nothing worth going back for . I also had the pancakes which were very dry and had little taste - would not recommend them. My friend had the creamed chipped beef, and thought that an out of the box version would've tasted better. We did have the sweet potato fries, which weren't bad, but also nothing special either. All in all, it seemed it was just plain diner food, if not sub-par diner food.

Despite being featured on The Food Network, I'd say it's merely decent diner fare. They do have authentic ceasar salad, complete with shaved parmesan and anchovy fillets. Don't bother ordering anything from the bakery.

A very popular place.....
By Trishy B, 11/27/05
It's a very nice place to eat, as long as you dont want anything exotic, or extraordinary....but those with special diets and other concerns should love it, as they do their level best to cater to those needs. The menu is varied and depending on the shift, actually quite well prepared. The value isnt what it used to be, but it still isn't too bad on the wallet. The best days to go are Sunday morning, or Saturday late night. And the latenight waitstaff are as quick to make you a welcome regular, and greet you like an old friend.
