Davio's - Philadelphia
Davio's, with its "Northern Italian Steakhouse" cuisine, brings a deliciously unique flair to a city famous worldwide for its Italian restaurants. Situated in the historic Provident Bank Building in Center City Philadelphia, Davio's offers diners the complete upscale dining experience - exquisite food, expertly prepared and presented in a grandly historic ambience. Davio's skilled wait-staff provide guests with relaxed, yet attentive service, and are smartly garbed in long white coats reminiscent of Italy's finest restaurants. Offering Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner 7 days a week, the restaurant has already gained popularity as a prime spot for both "Power Breakfast" and "Power Lunch" among the Philadelphia business community. Dinner also brings local and national luminaries from all walks of life on a regular basis. Reservations are suggested for the main dining room.
I had to attend a conference in Philadelphia recently and the concierge at our hotel recommended Davio's very highly. We were expecting a much more traditional Italian restaurant, and were a bit suprised to find it's more of a steakhouse. Our server (wore reading glasses) was very knowledgeble and recommended the Calamari, Ribeye and a unique pumpkin creme brule'. Every course was spot on and perfectly prepared. Next time I'm in the area, I'll be back to Davio's
We enjoyed dinner at Davio's on Saturday February 24th. The restaurant was located just two blocks down from our hotel, and was perfectly located for us. The dining room of the restaurant is located in a former bank, and the second-floor location revealed a huge open area with high ceilings yet was somehow still quite cozy.
We had a wonderful, knowledgeable sommelier and our server was terrific. Attentive, but not hovering. Instead of the usual bred prior to dinner, we were presented with a lovely array of fresh ricotta cheese, marinated mushrooms and olives. That in itself would have been a lovely feast! We started with salad; I enjoyed a Caesar presented with full romaine leaves intact and fresh anchovy. It was quite good, but nothing extraordinary.
Davio's is known for their beef, so I went with a filet mignon. It was seared perfectly crisp on the outside and yet was warm, flavorful, and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside. I ate the entire thing with relish.
Dessert was tiramisu; it was better-than-average but I LOVE tiramisu and have tried it almost everywhere so I am a bit spoiled. It was good, but not worth sacrificing my first-born for.
Overall, I would highly recommend Davio
The entrance to Davios is easily missed as one rushes along with city flow, but once discovered you will wonder how you coped without it. This second floor restaurant comes with an ultra cool yet relaxing bar complete with comfy sofas and quiet nooks. Attentive staff seem to appear from nowhere when you need them, and fade into the background when you don't. Perfect. Tables are set far enough apart that one can indulge in private conversations without being overheard (and without being forced to listen to your neighbours chit chat too). Crisp white linens and tastefull decor amid a subtle romantic light really set the mood for a delightful evening. The food can only be described as a heavenly experience. The sea scallops melt in the mouth and the desert tray will bring tears to the eyes of all those watching their weight.
With so many tantilizing dishes you will return again and again and I promise that you will never be disappointed. Ten out of ten.
