Okay, sorry, but you are all crazy! This is not the best pizza in the world, the U.S., or even PA. To start with, pizza is supposed to have mozzarella cheese, not shredded white American. It's fine if you like it, but get real, it's not that good. The crust tasted like it was made from Bisquick, the sauce tasted like Campbell's tomato soup splashed on it and we already got into the cheese.
It's fine if you want to give it a shot, or even if you do like it, but don't confuse it as the Best Pizza. I have a hard time even calling it pizza.
SO I AM A PIZZA PERSON.......I HAVE HAD IT FROM VENICE TO BROOKLYN TO NJ TO THE UK WHERE IT IS TERRIBLE AND AUSTRALIA..AS WELL.THE PIZZA WAS GREAT...NOW FOR THE BAD....SERVICE SUCKED...THEY DIDNT HAVE MILK,JUICE OR COFFE what is that about... THEIR MENU WAS 2 PAGES with more selections i think at dominoes..hahaha but seriously THEIR WATER WAS GROSS TASTING AND IF YOUR A FAMILY GO ACROSS THE ST TO ARCARO....THIS IS MORE OF A BAR ATMOSPHERE AND IT JUST TURNED ME OFF GREAT PIZZA BUT I WILL NEVER GO BACK...
After much research, we decided to give Revello's a shot...I am so glad we did! We have never had Old Forge pizza before, but now we can't wait to go back! Not only did we have a tray of red with pepperoni, we took another tray home (3 hours away). Not your normal pizza or cheese but definitely good stuff!!
I have made it a personal goal of mine to try as many of OF Pizza shops as i can and will rate them as i taste them. Revello's was a name given to me by a great couple i met on my first overnight trip in PA. I was not impressed. The dough had a frozen taste to it and the cheese was barely melted. To be fair, this was my first try at OF Pizza, so on my next trip i went again and even asked that it be well done, but recieved the same result. At least it is consistant. I plan to try the shop accross the street next time.
My family of 5 went to Revello's on a Sunday night for dinner. We had never been there before and I researched online to find the best place for pizza in Old Forge. We walked in around 6:30 pm and it was pretty crowded. We were told to seat ourselves so we found a booth to fit all of us. This place is very basic, there is probably little overhead here. The booth we sat in was torn, my son almost cut himself on the exposed spring. The menu is a printout in a plastic stand, tiny paper plates were given to us to eat our pizza, napkin dispenser on table stuffed w/ tissue paper... very basic place. But these types of places are our favorite so this didn't bother us at all. We ordered a tray of red w/ meatballs and a tray of white w/ broccoli. Also a pitcher of Coke which was RC Cola, fine with us. This place also doesn't take debit/cards so bring cash if you go. Our pizza arrives in a timely fashion. My husband took one bite of the white and I thought he was in heaven LOL. It is like grilled cheese between a crispy crust. Not sure if I would classify it as pizza but it was still delish! Then I tried the red w/ the meatballs. WOW! The sauce was sweet, the cheese was not mozzerella but some sticky, gooey concoction that tasted awesome but the meatballs were the star! I haven't had meatballs that wonderful since my Italian mother made them before she died. While I think it was a bit pricey (our bill was $33) it was worth it and we would return again. It's not your run of the mill pizza, it's very different but delicious none the less. I would like to try the other places on the main street but Revello's will be hard to beat. It's not fancy but the pizza was great.
My family has been in Scranton since 1888, and I have very fond memories of Old Forge pizza, but never really knew what pizzeria they would get it from. I had a funeral to attend this week, and thought to pick up some to bring home to New York. I researched what the local's recommended on this site, but really should have asked family. I got four pans, two white, two red, from Revello's. It was awful. The crust was doughy and chewy, not crisp and flavorful like I have had in the past. The cheese was way too much and not quality product. I can't understand how this place survives the local competition. I called to speak with the owner, letting them know how disappointed I was. I was told the owner would call me later that day, but it never happened, not that much could be done from 100 miles away. I left town hungry, and it pretty much ruined my appetite for the rest of the day. What a disappointment. Pizza Hut would have been a better choice. I can't say where to go, but I would look elsewhere for Old Forge's finest.
