We heard about this restaurant from a friend of a friend. Frankly, after looking at menu online and pictures we were not impressed. We ended up here simply because we did not have enough $$$ for the Old Greenfield Inn (which is where we wanted to go) and nothing else seemed to be grabbing our attention. It is hard to decide on a restaurant in Lancaster area as nothing looks that amazing compared with our area (NY-TriState area) where there are too many incredible places to choose from. At any rate, we ended up here simply because we could not decide on anything else. What a WONDERFUL surprise. While nearly impossible to find parking (didn't help that 30" of snow had recently fallen) it was so worth the freezing walk to warm up in this little gem of a restaurant.
For starters I had a mixed green salad with basic dijon vinegrette. Needed a touch of salt but was decent. Wife had vegetable stew and she crowed on and on about it. Must have been good but I was not in mood for soup. Also served with meal was a basket of bread accompanied by a lovely tapenade. Bread was mediocre at best but tapenade was delicious. Then the entrees! The wife had the 1st&Ruby chicken: rigatoni pasta with sundried tomato, artichoke hearts, and chicken in a lightly garlicy olive oil and balsamic reduction. My GOD it was incredible! That folks in on the menu. I had a special for the night, lightly grilled marinaded ahi tuna with a ginger aoli. It was so perfectly cooked I thought I was in heaven. The flavor and textures were textbook perfect. As for the service we experienced the humorous and delightful care provided by Abby. Almost worth going for in and of itself. She is funny, outgoing, and as my wife said, "I want to take her home with us." She is a great asset to Jethro's in our opinion. The dessert...Louisianna style bread pudding with bourbon praline sauce. We liked it. I was a little bit of a dry bread pudding for our taste but still decent flavor. The dessert menu is limited and likely would skip it next time but the coffee was superb (did I really just mention the coffee?).
A few things to keep in mind if you decide to visit, we went in the dead of winter so it was slow. I cannot imagine you could get in to easily in warmer weather as there is limited seating. Pricing was reasonable. We had two entrees, two salad, dessert, two drinks, and two coffees and paid $70 including 20% tip. In short, we will definitely return and will highly recommend Jethro's. We will also call ahead for reservations but also to see it Abby is serving. Good luck!
