My husband and I went to the Fairfield Inn as a romantic weekend get away to celebrate my husband s 30th birthday. We drove 2 hours in torrential downpours to get there, only to discover the room we paid $169 a night for did not have heat. The Inn Keepers solution was to give us blankets to bundle up with. Not wanting to bundle up like Eskimo s for the next 48 hours we had to leave and drive another two hours in the rain to get back home. The worst part is the Inn keeper was not the least bit apologetic and was even a bit arrogant about the whole situation. I have read good reviews on the Inn, unfortunately I did not have the same experience. I would not recommend the Fairfield Inn based off my experience.
Just spent Thanksgiving weekend with my family and it was the most awesome, happy and relaxing time. The staff, especially Andy were so very nice, made everybody feel so welcome and special. The food is absolutely 5 stars...bravo chef!! Thanksgiving dinner was over the top, turkey, ham, fried oysters and all the trimings, breakfast every a.m. and dinner...don't bother going anyplace else to eat!! The rooms are cozy and comfortable and sitting in the dining room by the huge fireplace is the best. Jim, the bartender is a great guy. Thanks Joan and Sal and family and staff. Had the best time and taken away some wonderful memories. I will be back with more family!! Love to all
As this was our first B&B experience for our family we were a little leary upon arriving to find doors locked and what appeared to be no one around. In the parking lot I called the inn and sure enough Olga was there to greet us, she was cleaning and forgot to unlock. What a WONDERFUL INN! Such a colorful history goes along with the expertise of our hostess who took us on the grand tour, thank you Olga. We received an upgrade to the J.E.B. Stuart room to accomodate our family better which was a very nice surprise although all the rooms were clean and inviting.
After sightseeing in Gettysburgh, not too far of a travel, we returned to the inn and had the most awesome dinner, kudos to the Chef. Our menu items came to our table hot and delicious. My first taste of crabcakes and I am now hooked, unfortunately during the rest of our travels I could find none to compare. Jim the bartender was also a wealth of information on history of the Inn, Gettysburgh, Fairfield and surrounding states.
This Inn is not too far off the beaten path and really worth a visit, stay, or meal. If our travels bring us back to this area we will definately stay again.
We REALLY enjoyed a recent stay at this Inn over Mother's Day weekend and the history of the place is amazing. We actually stayed in the Patrick Henry guest room - he was a nephew of the family that founded Fairfield and built this mansion house. Dinner was better than expected and the overall experience was memorable. We would have liked to stay a third night (to take advantage of a third night half price special rate), but had to get back to work Monday (ugh!). We'll definately try to make it back in the winter with Liberty Mountain Ski Resort just a mile down the road. We really want to experience coming back to a beautiful Inn like this after skiing to sit in front of the massive fireplace in the tavern.
The Inn and restaurant are only 8 miles from Gettyburg - no far, especially if you are a Civil War enthusiast as I am. The Inn is the oldest in the Gettysburg area and has been in continuous operation as an Inn since the 1700's AND is located on the actual retreat General Robert E. Lee took the Confederates on in 1863. We stayed in the same room JEB Stuart slept in in 1862 and the service great and the food delicious and inexpensive. We had a drink in front of a real (not gas) wood burning fireplace which really made us feel like we were experiencing histroy. Don't miss this place - it's worth the drive...
Excellent Food, often with excellent entertainment!
We have dined at Fairfield Inn on several occasions, and have never been disappointed. Our most interesting, and fun evening there was when the power went off in Fairfield! They lit candles, kept cooking with gas, and the fabulous live rennaissance/folk band that they had that evening, Cormorant's Fancy, continued to play on their acoustic instruments (they are not amplified, anyway). Go on a Friday night when Cormorant's Fancy is there! All of the food that we ate was fantastic. They do a particularly good job on their fresh-baked breads and biscuits.
Recently when my parents came to visit me here in Gettysburg, my dad decided he wanted to eat at The Fairfield Inn. He had heard it was good. We drove all the way out to the Inn and when we got inside, the place was empty. No customers for dinner yet, and dinner was to start at 5. We were there at 5:30 and got into the lobby and waited for someone to acknowledge us. We waited, and waited, looked at the brochures, looked at the dining area, and waited some more. While waiting, we saw a few employees walk by, chose not to acknowledge us and kept on going about their business. After waiting about 20 mins, my dad got fed up and decided he wanted to leave. Don't recommend going here to eat, since no one waits on you for dinner anyway. Don't be hungry!
