US Hotel Restaurant & Tavern, Hollidaysburg

I had dinner at the hotel tonight 6/11/11. I ordered the Stuffed Angus Filet Mignon 8 oz. Angus Beef filet mignon stuffed w/shrimp and langostinos, cost is $24.95. Included in the meal were some fantastic potatoes they had such a wonderful buttery taste, accompanied by some assorted mixed veggies that were done perfectly. My salad was a great mixture of fresh greens. The raspberry vinaigrette dressing was just ok. I could have purchased the same dressing in any grocery store. My Filet was fantastic. It also was done exactly as ordered. The stuffing was less than fantastic, the breading in the stuffing overpowered the taste of the shrimp & langostinos. For dessert I ordered Cheesecake mouse topped with chocolate. Which was wonderful. Although they only offered 3 different desserts. I would like to have seen a larger selection of desserts. Our service was very good. I really have no major complaints. I had out of town guests visiting. I made the reservation prior to reading the reviews and after I did I was very wary of what we might end up with? I will go back again with guests. We had a wonderful evening. I don't think I am that easy to please as far as my food is concerned. I have been in the restaurant business for over 20 years so I can be very critical of service/food. Yes, a few thing could have been a bit better but nothing was really bad. The taste of the filet made up for everything else. It was one of the best Filet Mignon's I have eaten in a long time. Very tender and cooked so perfectly. I will be visiting again sooner vs later. Thanks for the wonderful evening.

My family and I recently went to this restaurant because we love to try new things in the area. The food sounded great on the menu, but sadly that is about as far as it went. The food was subpar and the service was not great. We were the only people in the restaurant and saw our server a max of 3 times during the dinner. I give this a 2 star becuase the history makes it a neat place to eat, but the food is over priced and not worth your hard earned dollar... beware!!!

Overall, my experience with the U.S. Hotel for my wedding reception was a poor one. The food was half decent at least, but beyond that, the situation took a turn for the worse. The self-proclaimed owner, Karen, was rude during each encounter and always treated us as an inconvenience to her, but who were we to complain? We planned our wedding in five months and the U.S. Hotel was the only available option (now I know why it was completely free during the busiest wedding month of 2010). We handed her the easiest reception ever b/c we are very laid back and wanted a stress-free experience. Also, during our visit to taste their food (only two of 12 people were actually impressed by their meal, but again, nothing else was available) she informed us that we had to put a $500 security deposit down on the hotel to reserve the date, which we would be refunded (she said this no less than 3 times during our encounters). After the wedding, when I called and asked about this, she denied it and said the contract said non-refundable. I questioned her since I opened her web site which says, Your Security Deposit, less incidentals, will be refunded to you 30 days following your event, she claimed the web site was clearly wrong (and even if it was wrong she still has not had it changed so it seems suspicious to me). When I questioned her and told her I would write review about the U.S. Hotel, she denied the facts and then hung up on me with no answer. That is a great business owner right there. I caution you when working with Karen as she is very rude and apparently has no issue with blatantly lying to save a buck. Karen, when a couple drops over $7,000 for 140 people (outrageous) at your establishment for their wedding, they deserve more respect and stewardship than you showed us. At the head table we had no drinks for our toast, no salad, no bread, nothing. We were totally ignored until our DJ actually went over and got us drinks and told the waiters we had nothing in front of us. Totally unprofessional.

Mediocrity at best..had the angus prime rib and every bite seemed to have fat or grisel attached to it..good service... just o.k. food that night...did not get the quality for an expensive restaurant. Will definitely have to rethink about going back again.

I went out to eat tonight for my 33 year anniversary with my husband and 2 close friends. We have always enjoyed dinning here because the service has always been good and the food excellent. However, tonight was altogether different. Our waitress did not bring us what we ask for. ex. My husband requested additional ketchup, he did not receive any. friend and I ask for water with lemon we only go water when we were almost finished with our meal. There were several other small things but then she did not return my debit card. When I told her she said no I put it on the folder before I gave the bill back to you. Later it was returned to me by the hostess. The waitress never returned to to give an explain or see if everything was ok. It was not an enjoyable evening at all.
