Other than a couple of expansions over the years, not much about this joint has changed. Believe us, we know it's not much to look at. (Joe always says, the food's good looking enough! ) On the up side, there's no chance of really messing anything up. So relax, listen to some of Joe's tunes, have one of our Famous Tall Cocktails, and most importantly, eat a big platter of some real Home Style Grub. If you get some sauce on your shirt, don't worry... you'll blend right in.
I live in Ohio but visit Pittsburgh often for various reasons. I always make a point to stop by Joe Mama's. The food is outstanding. It is reasonably priced and we have always had great service. The pizza was out of this world and my son got the meatball. That thing was huge and it was very, very good. I have had several differnt pastas there and if you visit YOU MUST TRY THE SANGRIA! Wow!!! I do think the Sangria is a little overpriced, but I still pay for it because it is so good.
If in the area, I definately recommend.
This is one of oaklands many restaurants that services the poor college student. You will want to go here for half price late night meals. Near by are several other late night options, and I would make this one of your last priorities. Though it is the only one to offer italian food, it is not the very best italian. At half price though, you get what you pay for, and joe mama's delivers an adequate meal for very cheap. You will be full on pasta after leaving and so joe mama's is great for a late night college feast.
i am a pitt student and i used to eat there occasionally my freshman year, not knowing other options. the food is a lousy imitation of italian-american food. there is hardly any quality scattered amongst the array of poorly conceived dishes. the pasta wasn't even al dente! it's almost as if they know they don't really need to try very hard, though, because i've noticed their heaviest crowd always seems to be students with their visiting parents, pretty much a one-time customer who they don't have to worry about coming back. i still tipped well because the service was fine.
