LA Tavola Italiana Restaurant, Pittsburgh

La Tavola was recommended by a friend so we made reservations for dinner this past 4th of July weekend. Overall we were extremely disappointed with the whole experience. The service in general was terrible, our waiter was disorganized & inattentive. The table next to us (different server) had their salads & entrees served simultaneously and were told this is how it's done in Italy, which is truly insulting. The prices are completely Preposterous considering the complete lack of ambiance (think firehall chairs and cheap votive candles) and the fact there is no view. The food was mediocre at best: the Calamari Diavolo was tough and not spicy. The Pizza Margherita was 5" and served with shredded mozzarella from a bag. The Terra Sole pasta side dish (which was an additional $5 unknown to us) was over cooked/soggy and there a few slivers of bone in the sausage. The Veal chops were small, overcooked and covered in pepper as the 'Special Seasoning'. I didn't appreciate how we were nickel & dimed for everything, you want bleu cheese on your salad, $2 extra, corking fee for each bottle of wine is $5/$1 for each beer, each pasta side dish is $5 extra. We''ve been to Italy several times and can definitively say this is nowhere close to a good Italian meal. Will Never Return.

Hands down some of the best Italian food in all of Pittsburgh. My family's been ordering from there since I was a kid. If you get a chance order yourself a gondola hoagie. Forget about it, it's so damn good.

Although the food is very good here, my last visit left a lasting impression that I cannot forget. We were assigned to a very nice table with a seasoned waiter. Shortly after he was replaced by another waitress because evidently some VIP came in that was, I guess, more important than our party. The replacement was not aware of many things and we were appalled by the change. Will not return for a long time.

La Tavola is the reason that the Olive Garden upsets me so much. In Pittsburgh there are so many wonderful Italian Family places, and La Tavola is the best. The signature pasta dishes are unbelievable. the environment is great... all around a wonderful place to eat with your friends and family.

My wife and I were introduced to this restaurant by friends several months ago and we have probably been back more than a dozen times, each with a different set of friends from Pittsburgh or out of town. EVERYONE loves the food. The owners of the restaurant are first generation Italian and if Joe and Carmella have the time, they wander around to speak with the customers. You will fall in love. The food is prepared with great skill, discernment and creativity (fantastic antipasto, signature pasta dishes, incomparable fish, veal, etc.). The wait staff is knowledgeable so ask questions and if you don't see what you want, challenge them. Cash only and reasonably expensive, but for the quality, a great value. Bringing your own wine makes this a steal.

I have been eating here since before I can remember. I grew up in Mt. Washington and never liked anybody's pizza/food more than La Tavola. It used to be called something else, but the good food has never changed. I would highly recommend this for anybody looking for somewhere different to go. It's still Italian food, but it's great! You won't be disappointed.

This little gem of an Italian restaurant is tucked away on a side street in the Mt. Washington section of Pittsburgh. The decor is elegant yet relaxed inside, and their food is marvelous. I had a wonderful dish of shrimp alfredo for my birthday dinner, and everyone in our party enjoyed their meals. They do not sell alcohol but will uncork your wine bottle at no charge. (There is a small liquor store within walking distance of the establishment.) Prices are competitive with any other restaurant of its caliber. Worth searching out.

This is a full fledged old fashioned italian resteraunt. The food is great. The pizza is delightful and the meatball hoagies are a treat as well. Delivery is fast and the employees are friendly.
