Union Block Italian Bistro, Hammondsport

We went to the Union Block Italian Bistro a week ago and had a wonderful evening. We started in the grotto-it has stone walls with nice lighting. The bartender was cute but a little over the top at times. We listened to good live music and drank a great Zinfandel, the wine list rocks and the display of draft beer is delicious! Later we strolled upstairs and sat in the lovely dining room. Even the artwork on the walls was cool. We had a great waiter, he was friendly and helpful with decision making. The meal was amazing-antipasto, mac and cheese, spaghetti...yum! We highly recommend this little jewel!

After eating at The Union Block once, it became my favorite restaurant. We have been back, although not as many times as I'd like. I loved the anti-pasta salad and the pumpkin bisque was amazing. Our entrees always look and taste great. My husband gets chicken parm where ever he goes. He feels The Union Block's is superior, even beating out the old Hill Top's in Penn Yan. I highly recommend that you try The Union Block.

We had one of our worst restaurant experiences ever at the Union Block Bistro two weeks ago. We arrived at 6:30 and told we would have a 40 minute wait. We went downstairs to have a drink in the Bistro. The music was annoyingly loud. Our 40 minute wait turned into 80 minutes. When we were finally seated, we waited 15 minutes to give our order. Our wine was delivered, but appetizers took 25 minutes to arrive. Our waitress was mortified when she realized we hadn't been served. Our antipasto was good, but our entrees were very disappointing. Overall, as far as Italian restaurants go, this was one of the worst we have been to. And we love Italian food.

From the time we entered this establishment it was a great experience. The waitstaff was extremely friendly, and attentive despite the fact that it was busy. We felt like we were the only ones there. Our glasses and bread baskets were never empty. The entire staff made sure that you were taken care of The pizza was the best I've tasted (extreme thin crust, fresh locally grown veggies, and was baked in a wood fire oven). It was worth every penny and will take the 1hr and half drive again and again.

This place is a gem! My wife and I were staying up near Penn Yan, and found the Union Block online when searching for a place to eat. I ordered the Italiano pizza, and was surprised to find how incredible it tasted (it came out on a long rectangular board, very unique presentation). My wife had the special, which was rare tuna, which was surprisingly the best tuna either of us have tasted in a long time. If you're anywhere close to Hammondsport, this is the place to go. The only negative was that it's pretty small, so make sure to show up early (I'm not sure if they take reservations, we got there at 5:00 so didn't need them).

This place is a gem. Food was fantastic. Antipasti was sublime. Had pizzas that were the best of our lives. The special dessert tonight was tiramisou, Best ever, including all of anthing we've had in Europe. Staff was fantastic. Felt like a family reunion. Go early, be bold, can't go wrong in any choice of any item on the menu. Most sophicticated food we have ever had in the Finger Lakes. This will be our place to bring guests to showcase both food and wine from our region.

Pure Heaven! Started off with the cocoa porter (20 oz, of course), then the antipasti, then the sausage, mushroom, and spinach mac and cheese. Everything was amazing- you could tell the chef loved what he was doing just by looking at the food. I stopped there when they first opened, and wanted to compare this visit to see if the quality had dropped. It has NOT. This is a wonderful gem. GO there. Get the antipasti- it changes all the time, but every time, it is wonderful.

This place was great. Wish they had more room. The seating upstairs is a bit cramped, so we sat downstairs at the bar. The food is definitely worth the drive.

On a recommendation from a friend we drove the hour plus from Pittsford to Hammondsport to go to dinner. Having spent the majority of the past 10 years on Keuka lake my favorite resturant was the Inn.. I now have to say that the Union Block has taken its place as an amazing place to eat. From the wine selection to mussels to the seafood pizza I was thoroughly pleased. The service was impeccable and the food amazing. I would have to say definitely worth the trip down and would go again in a heartbeat ...
