New River Trail
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/13/06
This trail is awesome and beautiful! We walked the entire trail with pleasure, road bikes on some of it and found it easy. The most beautiful part is around Fries. The Hiawassee Bridge area is also beautiful. You do not have to ride the whole trail; you have stops along the way. The New River Trail scenery is beautiful. The variety of water, Claytor Lake, the New River, Foster Falls and Chestnut Creek, and the many beautiful old bridges is a great experience. The trail surface is good in most places. We road our bikes on some, and it was an easy ride. We will definitely go back and finish biking the trail! The part that wasn't so fun was the parking fee that you now have to pay in some parts. I have walked this trail many times since 1993. The beauty of the river and the land is just some of the reasons to walk there. The history of the area is the other reason to go. I will go back there for years to come.
