Fortuna's Italian Restaurant & Banquets is located just a few miles from Niagara Falls and Seneca Niagara Casino, Fortuna's Restaurant & Banquet Facility is a definite when making a dining & banquet choice! This restaurant in Niagara's Little Italy, has been pleasing palates since 1945. The third generation of the Fortuna family now runs the restaurant and they continue the tradition of using the freshest ingredients possible. A faithful clientele guarantees they're definitely doing something right. Main courses include handmade gnocchi, ravioli, steaks, veal, poultry, and fresh seafood. Don't ask about the salad dressings and sauces, as they are closely guarded secrets.
I ordered the veal parmesan which was good (not exceptional) but didn't come with much spaghetti. Wife ordered the sword fish which was a mistake. The dish came out dry and tough, way over cooked. We sent it back and waited a long time until they sent out a piece that was not cooked all the way through. My wife watched our party eat and she had her salad and small side dish of pasta. When the bill came they only took $10 of the $24 off for the meal. When questioned the owner (who was there and did not talk to us) said through the waiteress because my wife ate the salad, pasta, and had to cook the swordfish he was only taking $10 off. I asked the watress to tell the owner to shove the swordfish up his axx. I left my comments with my phone number on the bill, no response to date. Needless to say, we won't be back and by the lack of patrons for a Saturday night I am guessing many are feeling the same way. They are in business by reputation only.
Server was very casual, more like you would expect in a family restaurant, but prompt and quite thorough. Atmosphere was classic Italian - no candles or checkered tablecloths, but intimate and romantic. Food was absolutely fantastic. We shared a special beet salad, which was delicious. She had the Fettuccini Alfredo appetizer as her entrée, which was much more than adequate. I had Veal Parmigiana, which was wonderful! The cannoli for desert was the best! We recently ate at Angelo's Fairmount Tavern in Atlantic City, and the food here was better! The only negatives are the tables are a little close together and the men’s room is upstairs. Lunch is served only on Fridays and Sundays.
I recently booked a party of 17 at Fortuna's. The food was excellent. The restaurant is beautiful. Unfortunately the service was not. I was told that we would have 3 waitresses attending us. We arrived at 6:30pm and our drink order was taken and our meals were ordered. No one came to check on our water or take additional drink orders. It wasnt until 7:30pm that we finally got bread. My guests were so hungry they devoured the bread. Some of my quests threatened to leave. We then let the waitress know that we would like to order additional drinks and she tolds us abruptly that she would be right back, then went about taking care of her other customers. It was not until our main course was being served that we were told of a problem back in the kitchen. We understand they were busy and we do not blame the waitresses. Management knew we were coming and they should have made sure there was enough staff on hand to handle the situation. I would recommend the restaurant for a party of 4 but not a large party such as mine.
We went to Fortuna's restaurant for our Valentine and 24th Anniversary meal. I chose this restaurant on-line as I thought being an Italian restaurant in Little Italy, it would have been very romantic. What a disappointment! There were no candles or flowers on the tables. There was absolutely nothing to create the Valentine ambiance. I ordered the eggplant entree. That was it - eggplant and sauce. Not even a side of spaghetti! After placing our orders our waitress asked us if we would prefer soup or salad. We were again not pleasantly suprised to find that we were charged an additional $5.95 each for our side salads! I found this to be terribly deceiving. When one is asked if they would prefer soup or salad it is implied it is included. If there is to be an additional charge it should be stated up front. Also, the actual menu in the restaurant is $6 more per entree than what is listed on the menu on-line - again very deceiving. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. If there are good reviews on this site - I am sure it is from the owners or friends of the owners.
I've lived in Niagara Falls for a long, long time and found that Fortuna's has some of the best Italian food I've ever had.
Their sauce is spiced nicely and has a good mouth to it unlike The Como's sauce which is greasy and tasteless.
I took my friend to Fortuna's for a celebratory dinner and we left very pleased with the service and the divine meal.
Fortuna's also has a nice selection of wines to choose from and the wait staff was very helpful in choosing a nice pairing with our meal.
I'm not sure why The Como does so well, I've eaten there and also The Goose's Roost and had nothing but poor experiences.
(Overcooked pasta, very bready meatballs (not meaty at all) and tasteless, greasy sauce.
I am a local.....Fortuna's is not good. They THINK they are...cuz they have the corner on the Italian market....so they do not take that extra step to make decent food or make you feel welcome. The (old) waitresses stand around and gab, while others sit in the back corner & talk on the oldest telephone known to man. Do yourself a favor and dine at The Como....much, much better service & food.. Plus, they have early bird specials too. A group of girls went to The Como for a Sex in the City Movie Premiere party & it was fantastic. Treated us much better than Fortuna's.
