As my dad was born in the Town of Niagara & we had relatives there until just over 15 years ago I have been going there since I was little & I was leery of taking my nephew's girl friend there last weekend after the bad reviews I read here. But I must say they were definitely WRONG. The pasta is still homemade & great. The sauce is definitely better than anything from a jar and reminiscent of the calibrese sauce my uncle’s family used to make. I was born, raised & still live in Rochester, NY only 4 streets from where the Cantasano family started America’s top selling sauce “Ragu”, sold it, then restarted what is now Francesco Ranoldi etc. I know my sauce! However I must admit my family’s favorite is from Romeo’s Restaurant here in Rochester. If only I could put Como’s pasta, pizza bread, antipasti & veal scaloppini together with Romeo’s sauce, soup, wood fired pizza & rice pudding, & maybe through in NF,NY Decamillio’s bowties & R, NY Savoia’s butter cookies & Guiseppe’s cannoli’s that would be culinary heaven on earth. Firstly this is Italian American food & we Americans usually put our own spin on cuisine so don’t compare it to “authentic” Italian food, because we don’t care, i.e. in Italy it’s called Fococcia here its pizza bread. Secondly if you want fancy coffee go to Starbucks this is a working mans food they serve good old American Joe. Third it is not a vegetarian place old fashioned working men eat meat though it often has to be stretched because it’s pricey. My youngest nephew is a celiac (allergic to wheat gluten.) So I don’t take him to a place like Como’s expecting he’ll have a lot of choice but he manages. I could give up meat before gluten any day. Forth as for the glove issue it is proven that people are more likely to wash their bare hands than they are to wash or change their gloves so the health code isn’t very healthy. And those of us allergic to latex prefer they use bare hands. Fifth all servers have bad days & there has always been a wait for The Easter Feast with a reservation because it is so good & you go home with enough for at least 1 more good dinner. I have stood 2.5-3 hrs as a kid so 1.5 isn’t bad since is always out the door. Lastly the soup was better when I was a kid & the “old man” was still alive, it had homemade broth, now they use commercial soup base with MSG that I’m allergic to so no soup for me.

I have eaten at the Como Deli several times. I usually have no problem with the food, however I usually only get an omelette as I don't eat meat and there isn't too much non-meat choices off the lunch & dinner menu (COMPLAINT #1). The omelettes are good, but I always forget to tell them to skip the bacon garnish which they place on top (COMPLAINT #2). What ever happend to parsley?!? Two weeks ago me and my Uncle sat at the counter as there was a long wait for a table. I was appalled to see all the individuals preparing the food without gloves. This is in violation of New York State health code...you must wear gloves when handling ready to eat foods. To make it worse I see one made rubbing his head and touching food. My Uncle who is more of a reqular there said the owner was back there too - also without gloves and without hair restraint. Yuck, yuck, yuck. I wanted to walk out. Also, the waitress was nasty too. Rude to us for asking for silverware. A very familiar complaint as I have read this in other reviews. This place needs some work...I won't be back.

The decor is awful, old and worn. The sauce is disappointing, you can get a better tasting sauce with a generic label at the grocery store. I was served chicken pieces that made me gag from the rancid taste. The salad was too salty. No healthy options on the menu. Just heaviness and oil. The server was unresponsive to me but very personable to what appeared to be the old time regulars from the area that were seated around us. It seems you get better service if you happen be a friend or member of the close knit Italian family. They must be the ones that are writing the good reviews and keeping the restaurant open this long. This is supposed to be one of the better restaurants in Niagara Falls - sad for the city overall. The Como days are over, it is not what is used to be. What a disappointment.

The Como is one of the best Italian restaurants in the country! I ordered shells and sauce and the plate must have weighed 5 pounds. The sauce was perfect! Good pizza and salad too. You will wish you had room for more!

Tasteless and not fresh! Stay away! They have no idea about Italian food. Wine from the plastic container, salad drawn in vinegar. Meats microwaved... Server have never heard such words as carpaccio and rucola... It's a shame!

I went to the Como for Easter dinner. We had a party of 27. Since we had a large party we made reservations. This way we didn't have to wait. We ended up wait in a hour and a half for a table. There was a hair in one of our party's roast beef. Then one of out party found bugs in her drink. Which was purchased at the bar. Our waitress was cocky and the owner didn't even care. I will never eat there again. So if you are going there don't. Mcdonalds and burger king have better service and food then what they do. An now that i think about it i never seen anyone with a hair net or rubber gloves.

We travel 3 1/2 hrs. to visit family in Tonawanda, NY quite often and we went to Como's for dinner during our visit. Six of us dined at Como's on Sat March 14th 2009 and it was absolutly awful!!! Each of us had a different meal and only one person's dinner was ok. The lasagna I had was bland and the noodles were layered 6 thick (not fully cooked)with only 1 skimy layer of ricotta (also not very flavorful) then 6 layers again on top of that. It was awful. Sauce, awful too. The other dishes ordered were meat filled manmicotti, ravioli, (meat filled) and ravioli, (cheese filled) also noodles not cooked enough and so thick you could chew forever. My husband had spagetti and meat sauce, again not cooked through. The only meal that was ok was the veal parm ...1 out of 6 I wouldn't say was very good odds. That is our last visit I believe our family will go. What a shame too. I am Italian and was so looking forward to our meal and couldn't have been more dissapointed. On the up side, my soup and salad was good but that's it. Never again.

I can't imagine this many people actually had a good meal at the Como. I've eaten at the Como and the Goose's Roost. Both owned by the same family and the food was atrociously bad. The sauce has no flavor, the meatballs are almost all filler and the pasta is almost always overcooked. If you like bad Italian food, by all means go to the Como (or Goose's Roost) but don't say that you weren't warned. However, if you love good Italian food, go to Fortuna's instead. They have the best Italian food in the city and a very nice wine list.
