Chef's Restaurant, Buffalo

Reviews to date seem to be "slim to none"....last one is dated 2/11, so not sure if all reviews are actually being "printed/presented". Would like to think so! We are "original" Buffalo...have been going to Chef's for many years, however, moved out of the area in 2008. We decided to take our Children and "new" Grandchildren to Chef's this week. HUGE....HUGE disappointment! Service very poor....server DID NOT advise that "with parm" is an additonal $3.00+ bringing a very simple "special of the day dish" to over $15.00 for Manicotti (?)!!!!!! Antipasta is "pitiful"....servied on an oval platter, nothing more than rusted iceberg lettuce and topped with some salami, olives and garbanzo beans, without any utensils to serve? Asked for water three (3)...YES....3 times without ever receiving any. People can do as they wish, however, we WILL NEVER return to Chef's. I/We realize things change, but this a very sad change.

I really LIKE the spagetti Parmesan with a meatball. I really HATE paying $6 for a tiny glass of wine (especially as wifey drinks 2 glasses) and $2.75 for a glass of coke. 2 small spag parms w/meatballs, 2 chef salads, one coke, $54 with tip. A little steep. Nice waiter, short wait, nice new entrance and bar.

All i can say about this restaurant was that i came back early from Rochester, NY to have a second meal at this restaurant. I loved the food there and the quantity. There have decent prices for quality food. The bread was very very fresh. I went there for a business trip and since then I have been hoping that I get a client in that region.

I used to be a big fan of Chef's. The lunch specials at one time were in the neighborhood of $8. The price was jacked up to $10.25 and they no longer offer refills on soft drinks that now cost $2.95. There are many places in Buffalo that offer a higher quality lunch for under $10. The price of spaghetti, mozarella cheese, iceburg lettuce, and coca-cola did not increase over 30% to justify the menu price increase. If you are craving spaghetti parmesan, I recommend buying Chef's Pasta Sauce at Tops and making it at home. You can make a pan of it for less than the cost half portion at the restaurant.

This place is a favorite when I want to show an out of towner what Buffalo is all about! I love that they have dandelion salad and who can leave there without an order of spaghetti parm? I hope they never change the entrance into that kitchen with all the pots going---I just love it.

We live in Pittsburgh,PA and take several trips to Toronto a year. We make sure to stop at Chef's every time we go through Buffalo. The place is very clean and cute. The staff is very friendly. The spaghetti parm is to die for. It is a must. We also take home some of their spaghetti sauce everytime.

Sustained by nostalgia and huge portions of Americanized southern Italian fare that hasn't changed in years. And that is why it's crowded.
