I normally don't write reviews, but I was so baffled by this place I felt the need to write something. The food was the reason they got even two stars. The food was very good actually; great flavor, intereresting concepts. However, the service was the worst I have ever had in my life. I saw the girl who bussed and gave out bread more than my server. I don't know if it was because my fiance and I were underdressed or what. I looked on their website it said casual attire. We were never asked how the food was, never asked if we would like another drink, never saw a dessert menu, and after twenty minutes after our entrees were finished asked both the manager and a busser for our bill after finding no one at the bar to help us. I felt it was incredibly rude and inappropriate. The server was lucky he got the tip he did. Also, I think he only had one other table. I would recommend for the food, but don't go if you don't have any patience because you will be waiting awhile. Also, I am guessing they frown on people with tattoos in their snooty minds.
This authentic French restauarant's quality food, atmosphere and presentation cannot be surpassed in the region. This is not your normal fine dining experience, it is very much suited for special occasions where one wants to splurge because of the superior quality and taste of the cuisine. The emphasis is very much on quality and the atmosphere makes you feel you are in Paris. So in effect, it is a surprise one would find this restaurant in Buffalo. Not for the price conscious but more so for the connoisseur. The New Zealand venison was unforgettable.
The food don't live up to the restaurant's reputation. Expect to fork $$$ for dirty glassware and even worse service. I had the rabbit and my date had the filet mignon. Rabbit had small ribs that I almost choked on (you'd think they'd remove that) and the filet mignon was dry. If you want better food, go to Hutch's, Oliver's or Mother's for the same value. Not worth the trip!
We always look forward to "our place" for a special meal.

Even though my husband and I live 90 minutes away, we always look forward to a special dinner at our favorite restaurant..Rue Franklin every year. The food has been consistently outstanding from the appetizer to the dessert. The wine list is varied and the drinks are expertly mixed. Don't forget the coffee--nice way to end the evening. We would eat here weekly if we could.
The service is exemplary, the portions are NOT tooo large, the menu is seasonal,diverse, creative, and beautifuly presented. The staff is very well-trained (very unusual in Buffalo),and the environment is elegant and beautiful..at the same time,unpretentious. It is not trendy, not stuffy; one can be formally dressed or very casual, and be well-received. There is a superioir winelist and the service is a mentioned, exemplary and also superior. The excellent quality is consistent.
Parking is never a problem..on the street, or in the restaurants parking lot, or in an adjacent parking lot. In addition, the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. In the warm weather, the outdoor garden is one of the most beautiful places to eat in all of Buffalo.
I am a native Buffalonian now living out West, and it is with fond memories that I remember the Rue Franklin. A beautiful, French cafe, set amongst beautiful old Victorians and turn of the century brick buildings. I remember, in particular, the orange hot chocolate topped with whipped cream that we'd slowly sip while listening to a melodic folk singer strumming the guitar, or listening to lovely Baroque music filtering through the air. It is a time in history that still remains -- it's small, intimate, and worth the visit.
